What's for Christmas Dinner 2022?

I have 3 Napa Cabs
Foley Johnson Estate 2018
Piazza Del Dotto 2016
Lobo Wullf Vineyards 2016

But I also have some Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, and Red Meritage/blends.

I still have a week to decide. :giggle:
I’d vote meritage. You have some nice cab choices too. Decisions, decisions.

Grab a mish mosh soup from DZ Akins. I’m craving one right now. Hopefully their restaurant is nearby you.

2 prime tenderloins, low and slow on Weber 22 Kettle w/SnS insert until IT about 120ish, then seared. 2 plump chickens spun on rotisserie on my Weber Summit E-670. Antipasto starts at 2pm until about 4ish. Then open presents. Then dinner at about 6pm. 22 people and 4 dogs.

Weather predicted to be about 15F, just hope its not windy.

DZ is about 45 mins from where I live. I have been a couple of times when the craving for a pastrami sandwich hits.

It will just be Barb and me this year. We traditionally have turkey on T-day and a ham on Christmas which we will be doing this year. Barb is making a new green bean casserole and a new yam casserole this year. A couple of martinis before dinner and a nice cab with dinner.

Christmas eve we will again try to duplicate as best we can the Feast of 7 Fishes (You degos like me will understand). But as we all get older and further spread it becomes harder and harder. Even little bro is in his early 60's and me in early 70's. But, we plug on. None of our kids will pick it up as we all married into "white bread" and no traditions there.
Christmas Day a requisite standing rib roast. New Year's day we celebrate our dad's b/day (who will be 96) on New Year's eve. Afterwards it's all back to the grind. I am inundated with last minute mixer repairs. Seems everyone all at once is realizing their machines are not up to baking Christmas stuff. Currently one waiting on customer to pick up (buying his 3rd machine from me), and 2 on the bench from one customer. Next customer now has to wait a little as she recently fell and broke her foot so cannot bake or meet up. So, we'll get hers sometime in early January. Waiting for parts to complete the ones on the bench now and hopefully can get them back to her to complete her holiday baking :D
Thankfully I am feeling MUCH better now that the Doc took me off of the Ozempic. I am beginning to remember what "normal" felt like

I'm planning something similar but will be on the road using unfamiliar equipment, but not nearly as many people. Hopefully the weather isn't sh*tty. I'm going to be looking at whole beef tenderloin recipes tomorrow to see what I can find.

Foul weather plan could involve a giant batch of gumbo.

I suggested a few 'nicer' things for Christmas dinner, but my dear family actually requested a smoked pork butt. Sounds like a new tradition may be born. Fine with me.

Well right now, if the storm (snowmagedden) they're predicting hits us ain't gonna be no fancy Christmas dinners cause I am not driving halfway across this state twice 2 days in a row

Outvoted on beef this year, so, spiral ham(not my favorite) with a fig glaze (experimental recipe, will advise), fennel gratin (maybe), broccoli cheese casserole, Mac and cheese (guest is bringing) requests for cheese grits, creamed pearl onions, Brussels sprouts, some sort of potatoes, I’m thinking a hassleback gratin or Brunoise cheesy thing. Dessert of Boonzaaijer Bûche de Nöe, and a Costco tuxedo cake( wife saw it and said “Ooooh, that looks really good!”
appetizer may include but are not limited to…
Cold relishes, gougere, cocktail weenies, meatballs, Chex mix, and all the requisite cookies and candy stuff which I should avoid as much as possible.
Cocktails, Perfect Manhattans, Martinis, Bourbon or Rye (rocks or neat), brandy or Armagnac, Mandarine Napoleon…

I've given all staff off over Christmas, so I'll be running the place and not going anywhere
There'll be six of us: me, myself & I plus Sherlock, Tot and Bibi :).
Debating whether to do chicken or rump steak.
Will have 4 different home brews & 1cider to test out.
I'm off over new year!

My mom told me I was cooking standing rib roast so I don't want to disappoint.

I just need to decide how much to roast and how much to freeze. Guidance and suggestions are requested...

1. No nads rooster, (capon).
2. 7lb smoked, boneless, rolled pork shoulder.* (On the WSM).
3. Smoked, honey glazed crackling gammon joint.*
4. 5-bone Rib roast.
5. Roast, mashed spuds, plus all the usual veggie sides, (I'll pass on Satans nads though).
6. Creme brûlée. Sherry trifle. Black Forest gateaux. Xmas pud w/brandy butter.
7. Various cheeses/crackers, pickles, relishes etc and charcuterie.*
8. Enough booze to sink a battleship.**
* That's our contribution to the feast.
** Joint venture with everyone.

Edit: Breakfast will be eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and a jug of bellinis.
