First the cook, pup story at the end of my post for those interested.

My daughter, son in law, and a grandson came to visit Saturday.
Tri tip with Oakridge Santa Maria rub, wings salted heavy a few hours beforehand, dried well and on the grill with Mrs Dash table blend.
Plus garlic brats.

Tri tip on the 14.5 wsm with hickory for a good smoking.

A very enjoyable meal, with people we love. on a fine autumn day.

Saved the pup story for last, it's kind of long.
About 2 weeks ago my daughter and family were in Colorado to visit my oldest son and family.
Three days before their arrival my son had found a half-starved pup on the side of a country road, took her home, and was caring for her.
Visiting grandson pleaded until she became his pup, he named her Violet.

We finally got to meet Violet, as did Brooke.

They wore each other out playing, and on Sunday our Miss Brooke was moving around like she was 17 instead of 7.

IMGP3583.JPG

The vet said Violet looks to be about 8 weeks old, so she was about 6 weeks old when rescued.
She looks kind of Labrador-ish, but I think she'll be somewhat smaller.

As always, thanks for giving my post a look see.

Great cook Bob. That pup story stole my heart thought. I have a real soft spot for rescued pups. Barb and I have had six of them in our lives all of them wonderful loving pups including Whitney our Golden Retriever/ Husky/ Coyote mix we rescued this year. I can relate to Miss Brooke's dilemma, Raddy our twelve year old Golden wants to but can't keep up with the two year old energy bomb Whitney. But Whitney's presence has made a big difference in Raddy's life, much more alert an active now.
Big kudos to your Family for giving Violet a loving home and great future.

WOW!!! That is an excellent dinner everything looks so delicious. Your TT is spot on and your son in laws plate is full to prove it.
Violet is a doll, I'd take her home also. It's wonderful your kids took her in and I'm sure they will have lots of stories to share with you. Maybe you can pass them on once and a while to keep all us dog lovers up to date.

Thanks Rich and Barb!
You mention coyote, and I'm sure the pup could have been one's dinner if not taken in when she was.
My CO son lives in the plains east of the Springs and there are plenty of them around.

Violet looks awesome (so does the food) and when I hear a story like this I always think of the bumper sticker - "Who Rescued Who ?"
Great thing you did.

Thats a fine looking cook Bob, everything looks delicious. Now I can agree with you as the puppy does look like my Dixie when she was a pup and she is part Lab and Violet is a cutie.

The vet said Violet looks to be about 8 weeks old, so she was about 4 weeks old when rescued
Everything looks fantastic. The wings look unique. Are they drums you split or.....?

Cute pup. Typically pups are removed from their mom at day 49, however it sounds as if this pup was removed from mom at day 28 or earlier. Weening isn't the issue, the concern will start at about week 12 through week 15, the awareness stage. That's where they'll need to keep the pup away from loud noises or other startling situations. The big concern is fireworks and firearm discharge. If the pup is subject to that during the awareness stage, it can be freaked out by it, and that can last forever. This typically only happens to pups removed from mom prior to day 49

That was something we learned back in the day when we provided foster care for dogs and cats (late 80's early 90's)

Thanks everyone!

Chuck, thanks for your info, I meant to say she was about 6 weeks when found by my son.
I have corrected my typo.

Nice cook and cute pup! Rescue dogs are the best! Our 2 doxies are rescues, as were the 2 buried in our back yard.

Bob

Your Tri-Tip + Wings + Brats cook was excellent.

But this picture of Violet steels the show. What a cute pup.

What a fine looking cook Bob.
Violet is a cutie to say the least. She's a keeper for sure. And she will have a great fur-ever home.
Our last 3 of 4 dogs were rescues. Deb always wanted to rescue a Siberian and she did it last Feb.

The food looks delicious and your pictures are beautiful. I love dogs so that cute little puppy playing with the boss of the house was very nice.

Great cook for the celebration Bob, and it is a celebration when an event like this happens. I always feel that these things do not happen by accident, good for your Son.

That last shot sums it up Bob. What an adorable pup. I've had some wonderful dogs in my life that are now only memories. That shot stirs the urge for another. Not sure about that. Oh yeah, that tri-tip looks fantastic!!!

You have brought up their children to decent people, Bob. You can be proud. This small black blob looks charming. Well, meal and photos? You can be proud, too, of course. Everything looks amazing!
