I've burned 5 bags, 3 lump and two briquette. That's twice what I've ever used in a whole year and it's only June. Just curious what's an average or who's burned the most.
I see you don't have a gasser so that accounts for quite a bit. I would say 65% of my outdoor cooks are gas. Also do you re-use coals?Oh man I think I may have a problem... I started the year with a few bags of Weber Charcoal but was primarily using Royal Oak's Chef's Select. So I went through 3, 20 lbs. bag of Weber Charcoal, 5, 40 lbs. bags of ROSC and 2, 17 ish lbs. bags of Royal Oak lump (and I have a 3rd bag of RO Lump half used in the stockpile). Then I switched to Blue Hog Briquettes and B&B Briquettes a few months ago and have gone through 3, 17 ish lbs. bags of each and am almost done with a forth bag of B&B. I have also used 4, 17 ish lbs. bags of Royal Oak All Natural and opened my fifth yesterday. I have also used one whole 30 lbs. bag of B&B logs and just open my my second this past Wednesday (I love those for long WSM 14 cooks).
So doing some rough math I have used about 510 lbs of charcoal so far this year or to answer the question how you asked it about 20 1/2 bags of briquettes and 2 1/2 of lump.
I don't have a gasser and I do cook a lot outside! When I was able to get Weber Charcoal (all through last year) on the regular I would always reuse charcoal. That stuff would relight wonderfully. However, I have greatly stopped reusing charcoal since I stopped using Weber because I have found some of the others I buy (the royal oat product) are hardly worth it with the size they end up and none relight in the chimney very well. I also use the cheaper stuff: the Royal Oak All Natural and Chef's Select (that I get for a great price at my local BBQ store) for shorter cooks so I don't feel so compelled have to reuse it because it was not that expensive. The Blue Hog does a good job on a second go, but I have found I use my "second tier" charcoals for longer or more intense cooks so there is not as much left over at the end of most those cooks. If there is charcoal left in the WSM 14 after a longer cook that does get reused.I see you don't have a gasser so that accounts for quite a bit. I would say 65% of my outdoor cooks are gas. I buy from the warehouse clubs, too. I've burned 3 bags so far this year. Grabbed a couple on sale recently, so I have stock. Been using Kingsford for years.I finished my 4th bag of Kingsford from Costco yesterday. I only had my WSM since May 29.
I see you’re from PA, are you getting the ROCS from Meadow Creek BBQ? They’re about 1 1/2 hours from me, I want to take a trip out there and load up. Where are you getting the B&B logs, haven’t been able to find them anywhereOh man I think I may have a problem...
