Beer Cheese Injected Brats

Saw this recipe for Brats and just had to give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. Teamed them up with parmesan potato wedges and a few abt's.

The day before my cook my son had us over for dinner. My contribution was this bread. Best loaf I've done so far.

My injector wouldn't handle the cheese so I got this from Grill Beast.

Here are the ingredients for the Beer Cheese. Recipe called for a hot German mustard which I couldn't find so I substituted some Jalapeno Mustard. The cheese is Gruyere.

Got the cheese melting in the beer using my small DO on my Smokey.

A couple dashes of Worcestershire Sauce.

Added the remaining ingredients and let simmer until creamy.

Used Johnsonville Originals.

All injected. Used most of the beer cheese. You can see the injected cheese in a couple of the brats.

Threw a few ABT's on the grill, some pecan for a little smoke.

Sweated the onion and red bell peppers.

Mixed in the rub and pulled from grill.

Pulled the ABT's after about an hour and a half. Could have pulled about 15 minutes sooner but they were still fine.

Got the wedges going.

And the Brats.

Finished up the potatoes.

Plated.

Everything was delicious. These were the best Brats I've ever done. My wife thought so too. Have a good Hump Day everyone. The weekend is just around the corner. Thanks for looking!

Are you sure you're in CA and not WI Cliff?
Everything looks terrific!
everything DOES look terrific Cliff! Cannot imagine why you wanted to do this, but what the heck!

butcher shops all around this Bratwurst state (and i'm sure elsewhere as well) do this for you.
in fact, we're grilling Packer brats from Gooseberries in Burlington Wisconsin.
like yours, these brats have cheese (cheddar) and beer in them. But also kraut, which is popular in these parts...

Thanks guys.

Thanks Jim. Well for one thing, in my area we're limited in availability. One butcher shop and then it's the big box stores. Regardless, if availability was better and broader in selection, I would have done this cook anyway, for the same reason I pass by the pre-marinated, seasoned Tri tips at Costco. I take pleasure in experimenting and doing things myself. I learn and feel rewarded if they turn out well. Just the way I'm wired.

Looks awesome Cliff - all of it.

Can you give a few more details on those 'tater wedges?

Well thanks a lot Cliff, my filled to the top bucket now has another must do thing in it. Those brats had to be off the hook good.
Because of my diet restrictions I experiment a lot too, some good some bad, but always fun.
Great idea and cook!

Man o man, Cliff!

First - the bread looks like the stuff that restaurants "air-brush" on their adds, and I know that you did not. Actually, it looks better than the stuff at the pricey "artisan" bakery down the street. Isn't baking bread kinda' therapeutic? I find that when I have the time, it is something that I also enjoy (but I would REALLY need to up my game in order to achieve results like yours.

Then, on to the brats - looks like A LOT of work, but if you enjoy it then WTH... (I'll bet that they were even tastier than they looked and they looked pretty darned good to me.)

Now once again - what is the best way to get drool off of my Computer Monitor?

Knocked it out of the park again Cliff. Everything looks killer. I love use of the CI grate on the SJS, I'm stealing that idea.

That is one awesome cook Cliff. I always like to do as much as I can myself. That way I can control what is in my food and enjoy the results.

WOW!!! Those were outstanding Cliff and I'm going to get Rich to try them too. Thanks for sharing that great recipe.

Woohoo! That looks fantastic! Since I have that same injector I will have to give this a try!
