ARD vs. Vortex

I don’t know nutin about no vortex gizmo. Oh, that thing on my head, that’s an Alien Ray Deflector. Keeps all those evil rays that them there aliens beam down that makes you burn your chicken or under cook your brisket and the like, from getting into your noggin.
Some people I hear actually use the ARD for cookin stuff, hard to believe ain’t it.

I fired up the vortex for the first time last night. Used the gas igniter on the performer to get it going.

Tried two different chicken recipes, one was Weber’s salt free Chicken rub and the other was a peach/mango marinade I dreamed up.

Barb did her mustard mayo COTB with cheddar cheese along with some leftover Creamy Chipotle pasta.

Cook time was 35 minutes turning the lid 180* after 15 minutes.
I’m usually skeptical of gadgets like this, but this thing lives up to the hype. On the first run it made two of the best chicken recipes I’ve ever had. Crispy skin and moist juicy meat. Even the corn tasted better.
Plus the fuel savings will help in the long run as I don’t think I had even a full small chimney of charcoal in the vortex. The dome temperature was still at 375 an hour and twenty minutes after I started it when I went inside.
I liked it so much I might order another ARD for the JJ and this time I bet Barb agrees.;)

That chicken looks excellent Rich. You have just scratched the surface with the Vortex's capabilities.

Great looking cook there. Not only cooks great but a great fashion accessory. Bet the chicken was very tasty.

Congrats on the new toy, err...hat, Rich!

Looks like you broke it in well with another nice meal.

Loving that ARD. I wonder who thought that the ARD could be used for bbq-ing? Amazing. I bet you don't put it on yer noggin after a few cooks. ;)
I agree, you need another ARD.........for Barb.
Fab cook you two.

I've seen the Vortex used in many ways, but that's a first. May you think of that first shot every time you use it. Chicken looks fabulous and delicious Rich.

Barb said one more of those pictures and she would have me fitted for a rubber suit. At least I did it before I used it:p

You found a great use for an ARD! ;)

Seriously, the chicken looks wonderful. And I notice that you are having some more of that chipotle macaroni salad!

That cartoon you posted is a character called Andy Capp. (A typical Brit lay-about).
He's still going strong here in the UK since 1958. I didn't think he was even known in the US.

Don't remember how long ago (long time) but I remember that cartoon in the 60's and 70's in a newspaper in Los Angeles. It was always good.

Andy hasn't been in our local paper for years, not sure about others, but I'm sure most of us older folks know him well.
I've even eaten his hot fries.

I love Andy Capp!
One of my favorites was him walking battered and obviously carrying quite a load. He was looking at a Bobby and explaining...
"I thought he was going to hit me so, I hit him back first!"
