Rich, here is hoping that you are healed well enough to enjoy your cruise. Hope you come home with a lot of good pictures to share. Have a great time!!!!
Hey, folks (and you too, Joan

). We've been back for almost two weeks, but things got hectic again right away so I'm just now catching up. Our cruise was filled with wonderful experiences and lasting memories -- though not all the memories were pleasant! At St. Thomas I picked up a stomach bug and spent our entire 54th anniversary in the stateroom experiencing all those acute symptoms I don't need to describe. <yuck> So we missed our planned anniversary dinner at the Italian restaurant (though we did order in as my symptoms abated after about 8 hours. Sadly, this caused me to miss a tour of Tortola that I really was looking forward to. And on the last day (disembarkation) Sheila came down with a nasty cold, so the trip home was a bit less than perfect.
But all in all, it really was a great trip filled with unlimited drinks (uh, I may have over-imbibed a bit on bartender delights), really good food (what sticks in mind especially was a really special Cuban black bean soup -- I'm going to try my hand at this one -- so good), some nice tour memories and just an enjoyable cruise experience. Per Joan's request, I'm including a sampler of our trip below.
It's also great to be back! We've found over time that our limit for trips away tends to be a 4-5 days before we're ready to come back home. At least for us, a true indicator of "you know you're getting old when". So it's been good to getting back to "settling in" our new (for us) townhouse. All but minimal unpacking is done, I'm getting the garage cleared up and set up to be my workshop as well as a place for the car, installing new door hardware throughout is mostly done, we've decided that "encapsulating" the crawlspace is worth the cost in this 50-yr-old place, and we're waiting for the new doors to be delivered for our rear outdoor area. The day before we left, we had gotten notice that our our new mortgage was "paid in full" out of the proceeds from selling our former house, so it's really been a good, relaxing opportunity to cruise and settle in. The answer to Sheila's comment the other day, "You look happy" was a definite "Yes".
The pics: We were on the NCL Escape with stops at their private Bahama island (we passed that up), the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas and Tortola. Really nice digs in their Haven area with large stateroom and balcony. Sheila enjoyed the Haven spa, I enjoyed the Haven bar and we both enjoyed the Haven restaurant where they went out of their way to ensure that Sheila had no issues with her variety of allergies. (THAT was a BIG deal!) The first couple of pics show cruise atmosphere including Puerto Rico on the horizon and then the daily party. (Party music on cruise ships has apparently changed from classic rock and reggae to more hip hop/rap. Just saying. Another "you know you're growing old when"?) Our St. Thomas tour included a stop at the top of the island for great views and the "world's best banana daiquiri" (yes, very good -- especially in the 24 oz size!) and Sheila standing beside the statue she had posed for a few years back.

We aslo stopped at a portside park where I took this pic of the old (very small) Spanish fort and our cruise ship. On the way back the last sea day, I walked out onto the balcony to a nice rainbow. Sort of indicative of the whole cruise. (I sure hope the thumbnails zoom out when clicked.}
