So here's what happened.
A month ago or so I used the WSM. I Used water in the pan. Normally the next day I clean out and cover it. I forgot then 2 days later it rained. Then I forgot to clean again. Well yesterday while I was getting ready to grill this horrible smell came to me... At first I thought it was a dead animal or something...

As I got close I remembered what I did .....lol

So I cleaned it out with oven cleaner and Clorox spray. I lost most of my seasoning.

Here's the part that some of you guys may disagree. I loaded up the Wsm and brought out my lighter fluid to start a high heat fire. I have the lighter fluid When it free with purchase of kingsford charcoal last year. Lol

Put the grates on direct fire.

Kept adding lots of wood. Peach and cherry

I didn't care about the heavy smoke. I just wanted smoke.

I used some pork skin I had and bacon. Sprayed a little Pam. Didn't have much to begin with.

I'm really happy with the results

I just looked at my wsm and it looks great and has no bad odor or any sign that it had mold and who knows what else. Today I will be doing some ribs.

after seeing the first 3 photos, YOU'RE FIRED!

you're lucky you cleaned that mess up .... this is just a verbal warning.... ;)

Did the exact same thing two years ago. I used about a gallon of Simple Green to clean and scrub it out, then loaded it up and let her rip.

I never leave my smokers or grills outdoors, they are always stored inside my house ;). Glad you were able to save them and clean them up! Don't feel bad about lighter fluid. I use a couple of Match light in my chimney to get the coals going. America's test kitchen does the same thing, you can't tell the difference. Happy BBQ!!!!!

Dude! OMG! I could have done without the smelled like a dead animal part. lol Glad you got her cleaned up.

Hey Tony, did you send a sample of that "soup" to the CDC in Atlanta for analysis?

Good save. :)

Gross, but good save......a bit o work and you are good to go.

I wonder how many peeps would have just bought a new one?

looks good after your recovery....

OK Tony, let me be the first to forgive you for your indiscretion. Living in SoCal, you obviously aren't used to a wet environment. Had you been living in the Pacific Northwet...well, that's another story. As Great White sang - "Once Bitten, Twice Shy". I know you won't let this happen again, and I'm sure Maribel won't let you let this happen again! Good save!
