No Thanks: KFC Smoky Mountain Chicken Strips

I like to think of myself as an expert on all things "Smokey Mountain", so believe me when I say that these KFC Smoky Mountain chicken strips were...how should I put it...less than spectacular. :( Maybe I need to work on a chicken strips recipe for the WSM.

I'll pass on those also, but it did remind me I need to get the oil changed in the 4runner. Your idea of a chicken strip recipe for the WSM actually sounds good.

The splotchy Smoky Mountain sauce was off-putting. The server places three chicken strips in the plastic tray and uses a squirt bottle to apply the Smoky Mountain sauce. Not only was there incomplete saucing but the raised rails in the bottom of the tray make it virtually impossible to mop up any sauce that collects in the bottom.

As for the flavor of the Smoky Mountain sauce...it tasted a lot like Lay's Barbecue Potato Chips.

stopped patronizing KFC eons ago... it's just not good.
And, I cannot believe Reba McEntire sold out to a company as low as KFC.
I really thought she had more class than that.

Ha... the KFC that was 4 blocks away & had been here for at least 35 years closed a while back.
Now I understand why.

I met Col. Sanders back in the 60s when he opened a restaurant in Atlantic City, NJ.

To stay with the theme, I also met Dave Thomas (Wendy's) at the small airport in Detroit in the early 90s.

They should probably serve that sauce on the side in little cups. Seems like they dip/submerge their wings if you get them sauced, but I could be mistaken (i get wings from KFC 1-2 times per year).

There's a ton of competition in the fried chicken market around here: Chick-fil-a, El Pollo Loco, Popeye's, PDQ, Zaxby's. KFC used to have the market cornered, seems they're trying to innovate/compete.

I got a bucket of chicken from KFC a couple days ago, I hit my pieces to look kind of like yours with Tobasco chipotle seasoning. I don't remember where I heard about the Tobasco Chipotle (could've been a friend, here, or an article but it's good!

Homemade fried chicken can be better, guaranteed great with this (if you have access to ATK): https://www.americastestkitchen.com/recipes/9179-cast-iron-fried-chicken-sandwiches

Not sure how it'd be in Kettle Fried Chicken, but it turns BSCB into tasty strips.

About the time the colonel died, I lost interest in KFC, the local place in town has changed hands, too bad, they had killer chicken and truly incredible fish! Now their stuff is questionable at best. There is “Lee’s” and Popeyes, so, I can get some fair to middling chicken when I really get the urge.
