Genesis Redhead 1100 "Diamondplate Edition" Restoration

When I went to remove my broken bolt, the whole "gusset?" came out with it, and was pretty rusty. My dad has a welder so he tacked in a new tab that we then tapped. This one wont be rusting out any time soon.

I have more than one time wished I had some welding knowledge along with equipment when working on my rehab grills. Welding is certainly a more permanent way of doing that repair, but they also make replacement inserts.

That is a metal piece. Steel painted black. It is fastened to the grill by two black flat headed plastic clips. If it is missing, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think many Genesis grills don't come with it from the factory. It is totally decorative and designed to hide the manifold and other workings under the control panel. IMO, it doesn't really hide very much.

Thanks Bruce! IF i get adventurous I might try to re-create one, but good to know it doesn't do much.

Joel, like Bruce said no real pattern that I have seen on that piece being on the grills. My 1000 did not have it and I just got an 1100 and even though it has the slider bar for table which the first one did not have I figured it would have that piece but it is missing. Who knows when the owner put it together might have forgot about it did not care.

I ended it up getting it from another member, it is a niece decorative piece IMO but as Bruce said does not really cover everything.

Yah, I always kind of wondered if they came with all the grills and just get lost like other accessories on the older Genesis 1000-5000 grills. Since they are only held on by those plastic push nuts, they can easily get knocked off like swing tables and other parts that are commonly missing from these grills. Either way, they are really not a big deal. I don't even have one on my personal Genny 1000 and don't really care. In fact, I had to look to know for sure.

Or easily torn off when you're removing your stock igniter and screwing down a piece of Diamond Plate :)
