First Cook on our New to us Red Head Restoration

Did a burn in a couple of days ago so the Red Head Genesis was ready to go.

Decided that some simple burgers would be appropriate to see how it would do.

When we were at the store I wanted to get some fresh ground chuck steak but all they had on hand was bone in chuck. The butcher suggested that I try a Beef chuck rib cross roast which they had on sale, so I had that ground.
I have to say that was a good call, the meat was tender and juicy with very good flavor.

We also made up a batch of home fries on the E320 gasser. Those are fun to make and so simple. Just slice up some potatoes, no need to peel them. Then just put them in a bowl put some EVOO and your favorite seasoning and toss.
We use a different seasoning almost every time we make them.

Well the Red Head did great, burgers came out great. It’s a keeper.

Here’s a couple of pictures of the cook

Thanks for stopping by.

Looks great Rich! Did the hood turn a darker red when it came to temp? Mine almost turns maroon when it's smoking hot.

Never a doubt in my mind that you two would put that grill back into showroom shape! Grill and grub look great!

Rich and Barb;
That is a VERY nice restoration! An excellent post, too! Love the meal! Yep, may just find an idea or two to "borrow" for my next cook.

Keep up the good work!

I watched for that when I did the burn in. As far as I could tell it didn't change color and I hit 550 according to the thermometer.

Congrats! That a beautiful BBQ, and a wonderful looking burger. If I could one of your burgers today, I'd gladly pay you Tuesday

Burgers and home fries. Doesn't get any better than that. Nice restore too Rich. We have an original Genesis, first year they came out. My wife uses it occasionally.

Always fun to break in a "new" grill & you did it right. Love those burgers & fries.

Am curious regards the burner setup on the redhead... can you do 2 zone (indirect) cooking on it?

Amazing cook, Rich! You gotta let us in on how you keep your cast iron gates so nice!

I have a tool called Barb. My wonderful wife has the patience of a saint.
Here's a picture of one of the grates that came with the red head.

She used a wire brush and a razor blade and about two hours of work on each one.

I always scrub the grates after each cook and about every 10th cook I do a high heat burn off and right after that I season the grates with Flaxseed oil so nothing really sticks to them.

Yes you can, if I want to do indirect I just turn on the back burner leaving the front two off or if something smaller I can run the back and the middle burners.
