    Home Depot Lump Charcoal

Was in my local Home Depot today, and thought I'd see what they had for charcoal. I guess they decided to skip on the Rancher, and go for Cowboy lump What a disappointment! I guess I need to stock up on the Picnic I get at a local latin market. Rick

Where to eat in Chantilly, VA?

Guys, I get to travel next week to northern VA, specifically the area just east of Dulles International Airport (Chantilly/Reston/Hearndon). I have been there many times, but I am looking for some ideas about where to eat. Most of my trips have resulted in quick meals at convenient spots. Any...

    Pastrami Question

OK - I've cooked pastrami a several times, and each has been wonderful. The first time, my boys would not even think about trying it. Now, they're the reason I'm cooking. But, I digress. I wanted to cook the pastrami on Saturday, but I have some evening meetings the next couple of nights. So, I...

    Floresta Wood Charcoal

Has anyone seen or tried Floresta Wood Charcoal? I have been emailing a distributor of Picnic lump charcoal that services central Florida and he told me about it. It is packaged by the same company as Picnic. I have seen it locally and will get some to try out - but it may be a while before I can.

    Rancher Charcoal

Saw Rancher Charcoal, made by "he Original Charcoal Company", at Home Depot tonight. It is supposed to be an all natural briquette made from hardwood and yucca starch. It was selling for 4.99 for a 20-lb bag. Has anyone had any experience with this?

    Savory Brisket Dry Rub

I finally found a brisket recipe my wife likes. She has repeatedly said she just doesn't like smoked beef. Well after trying this recipe, she asked when I was going to smoke another one. I think one of the keys was the onion powder, and possibly the lack of the SW flavors (she is not a big cumin...

    Sparerib question

I am looking for some ideas from the multiude of experts here. My wife is quite partial to the spareribs we made before I bought the WSM. The cooking method was boiling (gasp) in water flavored with a good bit of garlic, and finishing on the grill - drying them out and carmelizing the sauce. We...

Here is a question for you more experienced cooks. I have a 14.5 lb Prime Rib to go on the top rack of the WSM for Easter Dinner. It's about 15 inches long and from what I have read, it should fit nicely. Now the kicker, some extra family is in town on vacation, and have been invited. Is it...

    Northern VA wood sources

Living in Cental Florida has advantages. An abundance of smoke wood sources is not one of them. However, I will be traveling to Northern VA next month (around DC). Are there any places I may be able to pick some smoke wood? So far I have tried, and been pleased with, apple and pecan.
