In the commercial printing industry, we used a xylene-based solvent for cleaning, It was always a treat to send a rookie out for a cup of solvent with a Styrofoam cup.
And along those same lines, if you spilled any of that solvent on your hands it will take the oil out of your skin and will cause a burning/itching sensation as it evaporates. I watched a rookie spill some down the front of his pants once, and started counting to myself...yep, he got to about the count of ten before he took off running and screaming to the restroom. And when he came out some time later, he did the same foolish thing again, although he didn't delay before he took off for the restroom that time.
