I actually witnessed a relative of this 30+ years ago, in a small hotel restaurant at breakfast. I was travelling with 2 stylish ladies to the company's Tennessee plant, and the cashier remarked on their "chick" outfits. Took me about 10 minutes to finally realize that she actually meant chic (pronounced completely differently.)
