One of many image formats like jpg, png, tif, and on and on.

If a file is .gif format it can be animated like the one I posted instead of just a still shot.

Sorry, a little late in responding. I was looking at all the pretty pictures of San Diego. I love being able to see pictures where all the members are from.

GIF stands for Graphic Information File IIRC. It's basically a highly compressed image file format that can be animated yet still keep the file size very small so it can load fast
