Well , I have to admit , I'm a bit of a candy a$$ when it comes to grilling outside when the weathers bad , but after 40 + years of working outdoors as a lineman and whatnot....I am all done being stuck outside in the rain or snow or real cold.....so anyway.....I wanted burgers the other night and it was kind of cold and rainy so I was going to cook indoors but then I thought..." Why not set up the smoky joe on the back porch,? So that's what I did.

reallynothing special. Just premade burgers and French fries in the oven , but I think I like this setup pretty well . I can see me doing this all winter. I like a roof over my head when I cook outside.

Yummmm. This burger is making me want to go outside and freeze my butt off. I'm with you all the way on staying warm though.

ya know something Frank.... I've been grillin' in all kinds of weather for as long as my mind recalls and I agree with you... sometimes when the weather is plain ol' ****ty out, I say screw it & fry eggs for dinner ...

yeah, I know I got the covered Pigvilion but still, the idea of getting out there and setting up and getting wet or just dang cold... well, it's not worth it sometimes.

and what's left of that burger you flipped looks "halfway" good, sure the other half was as;)

Thanks for the support , men. I should specify , the burgers were premade by me...not boxed. I buy the hamburger and press a bunch into burgers and save them for these occasions. Tomorrow I will be getting out the WSM and doing a big ol pork butt for Christmas.....in the garage !

Smart setup Frank. My grill is downstairs, just out from underneath the porch. That roof over your head can make all the difference in the world. Nothing wrong with that meal at all. Stay warm.

Looks like a good setup. My WSM and Performer are on the back porch (covered) and when I use them, my wife makes me close the patio doors since the smoke migrates into the house. Of course, since I live in Los Angeles, it rarely gets that cold even in the rain.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about!!!
you are killin me , bro.....:o

you got that right , brother....no more cold rain runnin' down THIS guys neck...:)

now , why wasn't I smart enough to migrate to LA about 40 years ago ? I must be dull , I guess...

Frank, the funny thing is that my wife would love to spend time in Boston. Our oldest daughter lived there for a few yours and my wife visited her a few times there and loved it. As for LA, it is NOT the town I grew up in. I have seen a lot of change in 65 years and not all of it for the better. But the weather isn't to bad. I am sitting here in my office wearing shorts and a shirt. Quite comfortable. Can't remember the last time I wore anything but shorts on Christmas. We have two seasons here, hot and not so hot. Would love to see the leaves turn golden every fall.

Spending Christmas in a garage sounds like a blast!
:p

Frank my man, you have Habanero Death Dust to keep you warm.
Add a dash to a Bloody Mary and get your candy a$$ out there and Grill!
Burgers look great by the way!

Nice cook Frank! The WSJ is a fantastic BBQ used to do burgers on mine till I got my kettles

Great Idea Frank! Glad I'm not the only one who's had enough of the cold, wet and the ugly. I have my NG E320 8 feet from the door going out to the patio, it's my winter go to. The performer is way out back behind the house at least 40 ft. from the door so it never sees use in the cold and dark anyway, a man might freeze to death going all that distance!

By the way I lived in Southern Cali for 40+ years and I must admit the weather is great, but IMHO the rest of it sucks, to many people and way to much traffic and too many life style restrictions. But I will say my son who still lives there said he actually saw a politician with his hands in his own pockets...Amazing:cool:

We are having a mild winter. It's actually 55 degrees as I type. Night before last it was a bit cooler but I had a couple of fresh Filets (beef loin) that were begging for the grill. Since I was only doing a couple of small steaks, the Jumbo Joe was a natural. I used about 3/4 of a chimney of lump and just a few minutes after they were on we had a VERY nice supper.

The Jumbo Joe may be small, but the only thing it gives away is grate size. I thoroughly enjoy grilling on it. I have a table on my patio that holds it at the perfect height for grilling, so that helps.

The only downside for me, is that I remove my canopy for snow weather. That of course, leaves me without a roof over the patio in winter...

Long live the Jumbo Joes!

Keep on smokin',

With my luck, see that pillar to the right of your grill. A gust of wind would start a chain reaction and our house would become a smoke house! Nice job on those burgers. Merry Christmas!
