How about some good music links?

A few months ago I went with YouTube Premium. They offered me 3 free months to try ad free YT vids. It also included YT Music. I ran it concurrently with my old music provider Amazon Music.

Well, my Amazon annual sub expired a couple weeks ago but I kept it. I could not get comfortable with YT Music. Then last week, I was offered Amazon Music HD for free ........ and man, its a definite audio improvement. I don't have an audiophile's ear, but its obviously far better quality than old Amazon or YouTube.

But I'm gonna keep YT Premium for the ad free YT vids. I'm spoiled rotten, there's no way I can go back.

I've always thought that it was a short distance between country to blues. And that the Allman Brothers were really close to a country band.

This is from a 2014 tribute to Gregg Allman called " All My Friends " , its a great dvd/cd to own. And this song sticks with me more than any other.

EDIT ............. looks like YT did not like this being seen, the song is " Win, Lose, or Draw " covered by Eric Church.

That was very enjoyable.

I'm guessing that these days nearly every performance by a solo artist or band is recorded in some fashion. I suppose that's probably a good thing from a historical sense but it also has a demystification effect.

I can't begin to guess how many incredible songs and shows from years ago live on only in the memories and occasional photos of those who were there.

Memorial Day 2021...

Let us not forget the reason why we are able to gather freely and visit, enjoy and yes, bar-B-que.
We can gather with family and friends when many cannot as those persons gave the ultimate sacrifice.

My father saw battle in the Pacific Theater and I am grateful he made it home.
My mother served during that time as an army nurse.
Many other aunts, uncles and cousins served and made it home as well,
I am thankful that I did not witness war during my time in the Marines.

Memorial Day is a solemn day ...and I silently scoff at persons and commercial ads that boast "happy" Memorial Day.
There is a reason why we hold dear this day and it is not a gleeful one.

Some song links below dedicated to those who have fallen if you would like to have a listen:

In past uploads I may have mentioned that I like to listen to covers, be them true in nature to the original or of differentiating interpretations. The internet provides such a wealth of musical talent beyond originals and covers. Isolations and analyses of compositions are features of which I particularly enjoy.

One person that I follow is Rick Beato, who as part of his Everything Music channel, has a series called “What Makes This Song Great?” In it, he breaks down song structures that will cause you to never hear the song (that you know and love) in the same way again. His ear can pick out the subtleties that, if not part of the song, would not sound the way it does.

Beato is a musician, an engineer, a producer and a teacher. Well versed in many musical instruments, he brings his expertise to the masses purely for the sake of the music. Besides Rick’s WMTSG series, he has other videos within his channel will present and teach theory, structure, harmony, etc. He really gets “in the weeds” when it comes to his presentations.

His latest upload is an analysis of arguably one of the greatest rock songs of all time: Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. It is the last song on the third side of the double album released by the band in 1979. The music is by David Gilmour with lyrics by Roger Waters. While among the greatest of rock songs, the adulated stature is gained by perhaps one (two) of the greatest guitar solos within a rock ballad.

Beato’s enthusiasm, as he breaks down the song, will allow the listener to also hear the much finer points of very minute nuances of instruments that might not be evident on the record. He elaborates these in such a way that it brings out isolations which make up a vital part of the composition. His mannerisms add to the enjoyable pleasure of the parts even if the techniques and vernacular are above the comprehension of a non-musician.

For your consideration:
What Makes This Song Great?, Episode 104, Pink Floyd, Comfortably Numb:

For reference, as if anyone needs it, this is the original:
Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd

If you enjoy the WMTSG concept, here are some other notable break-down analyses by Rick

Episode 81, Stevie Wonder- Superstition

Episode 19, RUSH- Closer to the Heart

Episode 36, YES- Roundabout

Thank you Bob and Lynn. I used to listen to those songs over and over again many, many years ago. I am saddened by B. J's passing. It was great to hear him again. Once again, THANK YOU!!!!!

Tedeschi Trucks Live album will be released July 16 . They cover Derek and the Dominoes album " Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs " . I'm gettin pretty anxious to play this one

Living out here in Fly Over Country, I see places like Montauk , NY ........ and wonder what it like there. I hear the fishing is good 😄

But Gary Clark Jr lights it up here..... Live at the Surfside Lodge

"Key to the Highway" will be the litmus test.

Consider that Derek Trucks dad, Butch Trucks, drummer for the Allman Brothers, named Derek from Derek and the Dominoes, then TTB has a head start.

Derek covered the song when he had his own band, and after joining up with Susan Tedeschi, they've covered it.
