Father's Day Vortex. Wings and NY Strip

I got a vortex for father's day. I did a wings yesterday and NY strips tonight.

Used a light dusting of Kickin' chicken.

Fired up the vortex. Put on some pecan chunks. I got a little impatient and didn't wait until the coals were ashed over.

I was in a hurry. The wings were cooked but I didn't quite get the skin I wanted on some of the bigger pieces. I tried cooking them direct for a few seconds but you really have to be careful, the direct heat is so hot. My internal temp was around 185. I

Plated with some blue cheese.

Tonight I seasoned some NY strips with salt and pepper to try searing with this thing.

It almost scares me. I only went about a minute per side. I may get brave and go longer but I'm not a fan of a lot of char. It instantly seared the fat on the edges.

Steaks indirect to get up to temp.

Finished steaks.

Steaks came out great!

Great Vortex cook Dustin, you have to try the butter, honey, cinnamon, par boiled then blanched Vortex carrots once the heat dies down.
I was disappointed when i found out i only had three carrots left in the fridge....:(

I don't know which looks better since I'm a huge wing fan! But the steaks look delicious also. Great cook!

Great looking cook Dustin. It seems like every other cook that has been posted lately is with a Vortex. I think there is a good reason for that.

Dustin;
That's a terrific cook! My limited experience with the Vortex mirrors yours.

This is a GREAT piece of gear!

Keep on smokin',

Maybe there should be a Vortex BBQ cooking section added Chris?????, so we don't clog up the great cooks of others.
Just my 2 cents.

Another vortex convert. Great job on the wings and steak. Perfect. I agree, you definitley need your wits about you when firing up that afterburner!

I agree with JeffG Chris. We need a separate Vortex forum, & get all these great vortex cooks in one place.

Rich. Buy a ticket & get on board the Vortex-Express, you won't regret it mate.

Gonna fire up the teeny-weeny vortex for the SJ tonight.

Apologies for the thread hi-jack Dustin.

Those cooks look great Dustin. I agree that maybe we do need a vortex forum. I think it is about time that I initiate my vortex. It has been sitting on the shelf to long. Steaks in a few days.
