chef's crocks are closed toe. i upgraded to those for cooking so as to avoid hot oils/grease/whatever on my feet. they keep your feet warmer too when cooking. check em out if you have access to them.Just did two cooks today, chicken on the kettle and my very first go on smashed burger in sub freezing temperatures.

I don't like fiddly cooks too much. My crocs are too cold for that
Cooking with charcoal however is something else. I watch the chimney light up. See the thin flame in the dark. Lovely.
yeah, that's just stoooopi***Went to Sam's today. Some dimwit walking around the parking lot, 29 F out there and he's in shorts, t-shirt and sandals
OK, now don't be makin fun of me. Because while I certainly would not go out and about like that, it's not unusual to see me outside maybe even clearing snow in shorts, sneakers and my coat. When I have a longer coat on I look kinda like a flasherThe ones that crack me up are the guys that wear coats with their shorts. Granted, it is very rare for it to get down into the 20s this far south, but still...
And the obligatory pics.....It's 26 F right now and will be throwing 2 lbs. of London broil over the coals in about an hour.
EXACTLY! Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, the Fernwood Flasher is on the loose once again!OK, now don't be makin fun of me. The Frozen Bun Run! 01/01/88, that was me on, barefootin’ on the short rope (off the boom) bare butt naked. It’s amazing what alcohol can make you do. Two things Bethel Island is famous for: Crack and the Frozen Bun RunWhen I was a teenager my brother had a ski boat so ski’ed the Delta about every weekend.
While I never did this there was a big ski event my brother did every New Years Day.
It was naked skiing (and drinking).
I’d imagine there’d be a lot of crack at a bun run…Two things Bethel Island is famous for: Crack and the Frozen Bun Run
Which do you all think is worse? Freezing your a** off in the winter while grilling or sweating your .......off in the summer?
When I lived in Brentwood (No Cal, not So Cal) 100 degree days are constant from July thru September. The only thing I avoided was Wings because they are always a high heat cook. Smash Burgers on the Blackstone was a tough cook too. Other than those, I didn't mindFor me, July/Aug summer is worse. Sitting over that grill, baking at 100+ deg from the sun on the topside and the grill from the bottom, is the worst.
