Anyone else love grilling in sub freezing temps?

Just did two cooks today, chicken on the kettle and my very first go on smashed burger in sub freezing temperatures.

I don't like fiddly cooks too much. My crocs are too cold for that :D

Cooking with charcoal however is something else. I watch the chimney light up. See the thin flame in the dark. Lovely.
chef's crocks are closed toe. i upgraded to those for cooking so as to avoid hot oils/grease/whatever on my feet. they keep your feet warmer too when cooking. check em out if you have access to them.

The ones that crack me up are the guys that wear coats with their shorts. Granted, it is very rare for it to get down into the 20s this far south, but still...

Around here, there's practically always somebody wandering around in shorts. Old college buddy of mine contracted for a few years down in Tampa, FL, called me the first winter he was down there laughing his head off at the people in full polar gear at 69 F.

It's 26 F right now and will be throwing 2 lbs. of London broil over the coals in about an hour.

OK, now don't be makin fun of me. Because while I certainly would not go out and about like that, it's not unusual to see me outside maybe even clearing snow in shorts, sneakers and my coat. When I have a longer coat on I look kinda like a flasher :D

EXACTLY! Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, the Fernwood Flasher is on the loose once again!

Long coat, shorts and slides. Hey! We're old! We can do what we want.

I wear flannel or fleece plaid lounge pants around the house. I had an MRI appt. once and I wore them there and the young female attendant remarked, "Oh, I see you're wearing your pajama pants."

When I was a teenager my brother had a ski boat so ski’ed the Delta about every weekend.
While I never did this there was a big ski event my brother did every New Years Day.
It was naked skiing (and drinking).
The Frozen Bun Run! 01/01/88, that was me on, barefootin’ on the short rope (off the boom) bare butt naked. It’s amazing what alcohol can make you do. Two things Bethel Island is famous for: Crack and the Frozen Bun Run

For me, July/Aug summer is worse. Sitting over that grill, baking at 100+ deg from the sun on the topside and the grill from the bottom, is the worst.
When I lived in Brentwood (No Cal, not So Cal) 100 degree days are constant from July thru September. The only thing I avoided was Wings because they are always a high heat cook. Smash Burgers on the Blackstone was a tough cook too. Other than those, I didn't mind

Probably PTSD from volunteering to cook for 200+ people for my brothers wedding 20 years ago. Searing steaks for 3-4 hours. That was brutal.

Brentwood, you could at least drive down to the beach to cool off 😁

Chuck does your new area have 100 degree temps in the summer.
We (our micro climate area) max out at about 85 but it’s a different type of 85 than the outer East Bay Area.

I’m at 48 degrees North, 123 degrees East.
Otherwise known as 2-1/2 hours north west of Seattle.
It’s not that cold.
Only upper 40’s to low 50’s with minimal rain in this rain shadow.
We haven’t had any snow this year.

What gets me is a wind storm and extreme short and long days.
We can get a sunset at 4:00 ish pm or near 10:00pm and both of those are no bueno.

I want to be like Josh and snowbird to Scottsdale for the winter.
It doesn’t get any smarter than that 👍.

Yes! Love being outside year around. Cold and wet is not enjoyable but that’s what the Genesis Gold B is for! Love to BBQ/smoke in cold and clear temps or snow.

35 ish miles from Lake Michigan lake effect snow coming down right now, expecting 3-5” before morning.
I will fire the Vortex in the 18” kettle for a strip steak and a baked potato. Might be 25* outside.
