Anyone else love grilling in sub freezing temps?

Chuck does your new area have 100 degree temps in the summer.
We (our micro climate area) max out at about 85 but it’s a different type of 85 than the outer East Bay Area.
The town of Shingletown at 3K elevation might see 100 degrees, but I’m another 1K+ at Lake McCumber and I doubt it’s ever seen 100, and possibly not even 90

I’m at 48 degrees North, 123 degrees East.
Otherwise known as 2-1/2 hours north west of Seattle.
It’s not that cold.
Only upper 40’s to low 50’s with minimal rain in this rain shadow.
We haven’t had any snow this year.

What gets me is a wind storm and extreme short and long days.
We can get a sunset at 4:00 ish pm or near 10:00pm and both of those are no bueno.

I want to be like Josh and snowbird to Scottsdale for the winter.
It doesn’t get any smarter than that 👍.
123 west?

Don't feel bad. I always have a sinking feeling when someone tells me they are from western washington. Then I remember that the west is the coast. Water is on the west, unlike ...

I grill all winter long up at our ski house. This is what the uncovered portion of the deck looked like back at Thanksgiving. So far this season, we've had a little over 13 feet of snow. Which is tracking to about our usual average of 30 feet per winter. Overnight temps often below zero. -4F tonight for example.

I only use the gasser in the winter. Waaaay too cold/snowy to mess with the WSM and charcoal.

Luckily, the gasser is located in a perfectly designed sunny south-facing corner of the deck. Which has a roof overhead, a hard wired overhead light, is on the leeward side of the house, and is two feet from the door going back into the house. I often don't bother to put a cover on the grill.

So as the Thanskgiving turkey photo shows, the winter grilling is really a piece of cake. Almost like cheating. Because without the roof and wind block, no way would I be out there grilling in the full snow globe elements.

Grilling is cool and easy in the summer. I've yet to record a temp of 80F at our altitude of just over two miles high. But our charcoal use often gets banned in mid-summer. And with so much less oxygen, it can be a struggle to keep the the fire and temps going in the WSM.
