Anyone air frying?

One advantage getting one as a gift is not having to do all the research. I just plugged it in and started cooking.

The one I have is a 4 quart by Instant pot. 13.1'' length x 10.1'' wide x 11'' height.

It seems a pretty good size for our needs, and it's really easy to clean.

I just ordered that a few days ago. We'll swap notes.

Made this one last night came out really great, crispy outside and very moist inside.

Air Fryer Chicken Thighs Super Crispy

Ingredients

4 Bone (in, skin on chicken thighs, trimmed of excess fat and skin)
½ teaspoon Kosher Salt
1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
½ teaspoon Oregano
½ teaspoon Onion Powder

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat your air fryer to 380F for 5 minutes. After pre-heating, spray with cooking spray.
Add the chicken thighs to a large zip-top bag or a bowl with a lid. Top with the kosher salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, oregano and onion powder. Shake to coat.
Place the chicken thighs in the air fryer, skin side down, for 12 minutes.
Turn your chicken thighs skin side up and cook for 10 minutes more. If you would like your chicken thighs super crispy. Cook for 4 minutes increments to get your desired crispness.
Thighs are done when an internal meat thermometer reads 165F.

Thanks for the idea, Rich. I made these today. I also saw the recipe in some air fryer chicken recipes I was looking at. The skin was crisp, meart was juicy and overall, very tasty. I’ll make them again.

Pam got a new electric range for Christmas with glass cook top and dual ovens, one being convection with fan for air frying. We bought an air fryer tray and basket and have been trying different things but by no means have the learning curve mastered.

The plus side of a air fryer vs convection oven ( and I also have both ) is the air fryer takes seconds compared to minutes to preheat.
Doing finger foods or a half bag of fries (or whatever) for just the 2 of us the air fryer is just more economical.
I like that pizza tip for reheats.

Yes, I concur, that pizza reheating tip is the bomb. Previously I never paid any attention to that reheat button.

I may be crazy (probably), but I think reheating pizza in the air fryer is probably better than when it was originally cooked. Same with french fries. Especially those fries from a certain well known McFood place.

When I want it reheated I get a skillet or my cast iron griddle. VERY thin layer of oil and get it hot. Crisp it right up
It is hard to beat the cast iron reheat thing. For me, I might call it a tie with air fryer. But nothing replaces my cast iron.

So I'm doing the maiden voyage tonight with an InstantPot Vortex Plus. I have never air-fried before. Keeping it simple: fries.

When I do them traditionally in oil, I always double fry russets with a rest in between. First fry reasonably low oil temp; three hours later, 2nd fry at high oil temp. Fries rest in fridge in between.

Question: should I also double fry like this in an air fryer?

Thanks folks!

small cheat note: i like to soak the cut potatoes in salted water bath. the pots will give up their liquid and take in some of the salted water. it's a fast way to season the inside of the fries, not just the outside after you cook then salt them. AND it makes the sticks firmer.

I'm using my AF right now... just cooking up some chicken breast pieces to go into a pasta dish. Once I figure out how to roast broccoli and brussel sprouts in this thing it'll have a permanent place on my countertop. I can do both of those veggies really well in the oven but it's nice to free up the oven for other things when you need to.

BTW, 400F for 10 minutes flipping halfway thru is a bit too much for these chicken tenders... Came out at 185 to 190F internal. They'll be OK but a bit chewy. Just gonna chop em up and put them in a pasta dish

We had been "air frying" nearly every day for 5 years with the Breville Smart Oven Air big toaster oven, but never had a dedicated air fryer. It works well, but it's nearly impossible to clean.

Last summer, I got a Blackstone griddle with air fryer drawers and saw the light. It keeps the smell outside and the drawers break down and go into the dishwasher. I use the air fryer more than the flat top.
