3 days in the hills with a Smokey Joe

Have spent some days on the hills in Austria, living at the top of the ski slope, only approachable on ski/snowboards. After considering our options carefully, the best bet was taking a 14" Smokey Joe with us, which was used for cooking for 6 through 3 days. Now to share some of the fun we had with you..

Day 1, me cooking thai curries on the wok, over the Small Joe:

Day 2, only prepping some appetizers from French Camembert and sausages in pastry:

By day 3, Little Joe got a little snowy already, but still delivered some of the best grilled duck breasts I ever had:

Great pictures... The Mighty Smokey Joe is a grill all never be without... They're cooking machines.
 
Thanks for sharing Kristof. Probably had 6 huge appetites to satisfy each day. Great testimony to the Smoky Joe. Wonder pictures too.
 
Now thats how its done, did you tent camp on the hill and then cook?, or cook on the hill for lunch?
Anyway those are some terrific looking meals you guys prepared Kristof, that little weber represents.
 
No, luckily no tents. We rented a small house there, about 100m below the top station of the chairlift.. no roads, no slopes here, right in the forest. We asked about the local regulations about using fire outdoors but turned out that it's up to the appartman owner, who supported our plan.. even promised some charcoal to let us carry less. We spent the day on the slopes and cooked in the evenings - it really had a special atmosphere :) This place also gives you the adventage of being the first on the slopes in the morning, even before the lifts start.. gives you the best ride before even breakfast!
 
Very cool post Kristof!! I'll be up at Heavenly So. Tahoe in a couple of weeks, maybe I should take my Mini WSM up the Tram with me, could probably make some new friends up there! I don't think Vail Resorts would approve though, lol.

Any pictures of the small house?, Sounds like a great time was had by all, Fresh fun all the way to the bottom lift in the morning.
I don't know how many skiers/snowboarders are actually on this forum, but maybe that could be a new thread posted in Just Conversation???
 
Looks like a fantastic trip with a couple of my favorite things: good skiing/snowboarding and fantastic food.

Kristof, Your post really shows the range of the SJ - very creative cooks in challenging conditions. I love the pic of yo transporting the SJ by snowboard!
