You know you're getting old when...

Not that old. But, old enough to recall having 2 Holidays to celebrate ending WWII. VE day and VJ day. Now they're combined into one and I don't recall what which it is. If it's Memorial Day or Veterans Day.
I brought my 97 year old mom to the grocery store this morning and she said “today is Pearl Harbor Day”.
Her older brother fought from D-Day through the battle of the bulge but I can’t remember him ever mentioning anything about it.

To add, my father remembered being at a New York Giants football game on December 7th when the announcement was made- still a teenager he enlisted.

He and almost all of my childhood friends dad’s were veterans.

So of course this day used to be more prominent - today not so much.

My dad was a Pearl Harbor Survivor, so I'll never forget. Illegal as it may be, some of his ashes were scattered from the USS Arizona Memorial by one of my nephews.
Not many of them around today but I met quite a few of his shipmates over the years. Some of the greatest men I've had the pleasure of knowing.

Both my dad's brothers served in WWII in navy service. The oldest on a Guppy class sub and the middle one on an LST, both in the south pacific and both saw plenty of action on those islands and such. They were too young to get in at the start, but both served during the last 20 month or so of the war. My dad was classed 4f. :D No one would take him even though he tried enlisting he was rejected. Both uncles came home, but neither escaped the terror of war.
