Weber-Stephen Products LLC, (Weber), the world’s leader in innovative, high-performance grilling, introduced today new smart grills to its top-selling Genesis® and Spirit® gas grill lines.

"Every week, we field thousands of questions from BBQ enthusiasts around the world on how to grill different foods just right," said Chris Scherzinger, CEO of Weber. "We created our new Genesis and Spirit smart grills to accelerate the grilling learning curve, which previously was only achievable through practice over time. Each of these smart grills brings 70 years of Weber know-how, technique, and expertise right to a griller's fingertips through the Weber Connect cook programs and artificial intelligence – making them the ultimate outdoor allies for any aspiring griller. The results are a more enjoyable and convenient grilling experience that creates delicious grilled food every time."

About Integrated Weber Connect Technology in the 2021 Genesis and Spirit Smart Grills

Weber product and software engineers developed the new Genesis and Spirit smart grills to meet the needs of modern outdoor cooking for a range of grillers, from those just starting to the advanced.

Weber Connect technology, now integrated into the grills, consists of high-tech temperature probes, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and an engaging smartphone app experience. This technology allows Weber smart grills to adapt to each griller's individual cooking needs - from hands-on guided grilling programs to new recipes to temperature tracking and food doneness monitoring. Outdoor cooking enthusiasts can utilize Weber Connect technology via an integrated LED display located in each grill's side table or through the Weber Connect app on their phone.

Genesis and Spirit smart grills give grillers the inside edge on what's happening under the lid with:
  • Synchronous Grilling Results. Through a digital display on the grill, outdoor cooks can tap into Weber Connect technology's precision and accuracy with an easy-to-use visual dashboard that charts their cooking experience.
  • Real-Time Food Monitoring and Grill Notifications. Grillers can now view their food's cooking progress without lifting the lid via audible temperature notifications at the grill or by simply glancing at their smartphone.
  • Instant Flip and Serve Readouts. In-app alerts let grillers know when to flip their food and when it's the perfect temperature to serve.
  • Step-by-Step Grilling Assistance. This feature is for every level of griller. Weber Connect technology's guided grilling programs provide confidence and peace of mind that food will never be under or overcooked again, just perfect each and every time.
  • WiFi Connectivity. Outdoor cooks can stay tapped into what's happening in their grill while making time to socialize with family and guests or check on dessert in the oven.
  • Grilling Inspiration. With a wide variety of recipes, grillers can seek new inspiration to feed their grilling creativity and skill development.
  • Grill Fuel Level Monitoring. Cooks can quickly check how much fuel is in the tank, either at the grill itself or on their smartphone.
Additional Features of the New Genesis and Spirit Smart Grills

Pulling forward 70 years of innovation, state-of-the-art technology, precision, and a deep understanding of how people grill, Weber's passionate engineers meticulously design every Weber grill to exceed its owners' expectations and delight those they have invited to join them around the grill.

Weber's flagship line of Genesis grills is ideal for the griller looking for a full-sized, standup grill. Designed to be unlike any other on the market, Genesis grills elevate the grilling experience with their sheer power, performance, durability, and versatility.

These grills feature integrated Weber Connect technology, three industry-leading high-heat burners, a Sear Zone, 669 square inches of grilling space, and a LED lighting package for nighttime grilling. Genesis smart grills also include a folding warming rack, porcelain-enameled, cast-iron cooking grates, and a porcelain-enameled lid. Additionally, the Genesis EX-335 and SX-335 grills offer a side burner, while the Genesis SX-335 grill adds a stainless steel lid and cooking grates.

Weber Spirit gas grill models are for grilling fans seeking best-in-class quality, reliability, and durability in a mid-sized, standup grill. This grill line is designed to fit in any backyard, patio, or large balcony.

With 529 square inches of grilling space, the Spirit SX-315 ($849.00) smart grills offer all of the fan-favorite features of a standard Spirit grill, including a warming rack, porcelain-enameled, cast-iron cooking grates, and porcelain-enameled lid, plus the addition of integrated Weber Connect technology.

The new Genesis and Spirit smart grills build on Weber's connected grilling innovation program, which focuses on tapping into digital technology to transform the backyard cooking experience through advanced product design. Weber introduced its first connected grilling product, the Weber Connect Hub, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2020. The Weber Connect Hub turns any grill into a smart grill. It's a first of its kind, step-by-step grilling assistant that sends notifications directly to a smartphone on everything from grill set up to when food is ready to flip, serve, and eat. In February 2021, Weber acquired June, its technology development partner for its Weber Connect technology platform.

The 2021 Genesis and Spirit smart gas grills are available in Black or Stainless Steel finishes. All models feature a 10-year limited warranty.

The Weber Genesis and Spirit smart grills are available for purchase in the Spring of 2021, on weber.com and from select home and garden retail partners worldwide. For more information on these new smart grills, visit https://www.weber.com/smart-gas-grills/.

Wow. Grills are becoming like cars. I don’t think these latest high-tech ones will be feasible to restore anymore than the electronics-laden cars of today will be. I can see where someone who wants that hand-holding could be interested. Just don’t expect 15 years or more of service or to be able to bring it back to new like you can with the rugged old simple ones.

I did also notice that after years of gray frames and cabinets, it looks like Weber is going back to basic black as used on the older “classic” Genesis grills.

I will say what I told people that came into the acoustic shop where we had virtually nothing for electric players aside from strings.
“If you have to plug it in, “They” can charge you for it!”
I’m cranky enough I just don’t want to feel like everything in my life needs to be “connected”.
Now, I have to go shoo the kids off my (snow covered) lawn!

Wonder how long it will be before you can just open a bottle and take a pill and feel like you just had a great BBQ dinner.
Sorry, I can almost see it with the Smokefire, but really a gas grill with all that technology...Not for me just a nightmare looking for a place to happen.

This is for the Generation-Z who seems to be born with the phone attached to their hands. lol... I am not a big fan either of replacing the mechanical lid thermometer with a digital thermometer in the side table. I also wonder where the sensor sits for the cookbox thermometer. And then the web site states in monitors the fuel. I hope they did not eliminate the tank scale.
Also the specs on the Web site reads that the Weber Connect needs 6 x D-cell batteries. Not sure I like that either.
But the new model has one huge advantage: they went back to black paint on cabinet and cookbox. Makes it easier to restore than that Weber specific grey. And if you restore an older grey Spirit or Genesis in black it looks then more like a new model.

I just waiting for the grill where you can regulate the temperature via app on your phone and the grill gets embedded into the network of your smart home. The food delivery driver will put the steaks on your grill and you switch it on while still being at work. All done when you get home. :ROFLMAO:

An outdoor oven on steroids. I want to see the price tag on these things, the actual real world performance and lastly, the warranty, because I see these things turning into a basic Genesis II grill within a couple years when all the electronics are inop. You won't see any of the top competition grillers using any of that stuff.

OK, I see the prices. NO THANKS.

I guess I use the KIS system for grilling. I skip the Burn off step these days. Since I got the SS grates for my Q200 a few months ago, I have yet to burn off or even scrape them since the first cook. LOL.

That’s probably true to a certain extent. I see the computer controlled temperature and WiFi monitoring on a pellet smoker as being more reasonable for a grill designed to do 12-hour and even longer cooks. For high heat gas grilling it does seem over the top. I enjoy actually grilling. But I have to admit when I got my pellet grill I found myself using my Big Green Egg a lot less. Of course there are all kinds of electronic add-on gizmos for kettles, Kamado cookers and WSMs, too. The distinction is getting more and more blurred all the time.

Well, I am sure the marketing department has determined that the market wants more gizmos. But it is taking the Genesis line way over the top in price. A basic E315 is not over $1000 and I think that prices a whole lot of people out of the market. I guess they will have some Spirit grills that will fill some of that $700 to $900 market. But, I don't think loyal Weber customers are going to want to take the step down to a cheaper built Spirit just to own another Weber.
Maybe Weber is realizing they are still competing against themselves with the old Silver B's and 1000's and had to find a way to differentiate themselves because I really don't think quality or performance have been significantly upgraded over the last 15 years. Some might say quality and performance has even regressed.

Buyers should demand at least a 5 year and probably 10 year bumper to bumper warranty on those things for the prices that Weber is asking because I would not expect the electronics, much less the grill itself to last anywhere near that long.

IMO Weber does not try to compete in the low end so yes the prices for some are over the top but for a lot they are not. Kind of funny to me reading some of the posts about the cooking is not fun on a gas grill or gen z who live by their phone and by the way my wife turned 60 today and she lives by her phone along with my kids myself not so much.

On this forum and certainly this is my opinion its a rehab forum how many people here actually have bought a new Weber product and I am not talking about ten years ago surely the Smoke Fire people did the product did not live up to expectations and maybe some day it will. We are rehabbing grills from the 1990's and early 2000's we are useless to Weber we are not buying cooking grates from them ignitors from them or whatever.

I am all for grills using apps to control or monitor them by the way I am 67 because its a convenience. You buy a good pellet grill that has wifi does it not, when I use my UDS I use my Maverick to sit in side watching a football game so am I not really cooking or am I.

I am really impressed by Weber's new products when it comes to styling I think these are beautiful looking grills certainly the Smoke Fire to me is the best looking pellet grill out there. The new Traveler is another example of that you can argue which you can't that the Q is a better cooker but nobody knows that since nobody has cooked on a Traveler yet. I posted in the Traveler thread that my 23 year old loved it, to me a Q looks like an egg turned sideways IMO about zero style compared to the Traveler but its all in how it performs in the end. By the way if your doing burgers and steaks how great does it need to be if it gets the job done.

So to be honest until I found this forum never owned a Weber in my life kept buying junk gasser grills which did the job not as well as a Weber for sure. So I did a 1000 for my daughter, an 1100 for a friend, a Silver C for myself and bought a gas assist performer used by the way and trying to track down a Summit Charcoal which again will be used. I am a lousy Weber Customer so I am not the future for them but my kids they would have no clue how to rehab anything nor the desire they will pay up and they will come to me for advice down the road yes if its possible still build them an early grill but those are starting to be getting scarce as the years go on.

Yah, I guess I never was nor will I ever be in the target group that Weber is after. I won't spend twice as much for an outdoor grill that I did on our kitchen oven/stove. This is all fine with me though. It makes my rehabs all the more valuable. Lots of guys like me value the weber name and quality but simply cannot afford it or are willing to spend the money to get it new.
I will never own a driverless car and I will never own a driverless grill and I won't feel bad about that either.

Bottom line is many of us don't bother buying "new" Weber product mostly because they've gotten too big for their britches. They have priced themselves outta the market and pushed over the top of what is justifiable (in many minds) to spend on a grill that is truly of questionable quality and longevity now.
I have no doubt BTW the traveler will cook as well as a Q. Why not? It's got the same cooking system. All they did was cheapen the construction and make a better cart. They could just as easily have made that cart for the Q series and no one would have been unhappy about that.
Also I too would not mind some automation on my grill. Not "hand holding" like they're introducing. But actual "control" i.e. temp control, and safety control (sensors to detect a flame out and shut gas down or attempt a relight).
Sadly while flashy there is nothing of substance anymore
