What is the longest smoke possible?

So the wife tested positive for COVID yesterday so now the family is under 14 day quarantine. She is isolating upstairs and doing well all things considered but my nervous energy is off the carts. I figure why not put some to good use and do a long smoke! So with unlimited time and a reasonable budget what would you smoke?

I'm sure we all have those recipes saved that take way too many steps or use a crazy amount of prep that we never did so lets see them. I would love to try something that takes many hours and/or days if they are out there. The more baby sitting the better! Hopefully some good smoke will keep this damn virus from driving me insane and spreading through the house...

Positive vibes Russ, positive vibes!
Smoke whatever you have, try some curing, like bacon, bake some bread, make some stock, try pickling.

Though I’ve not done much, I’d agree, cure then smoke some bacon! Butts are always crowd pleasers and freeze pretty well. Brisket always makes me happy.
As for really long smoke, maybe cure and smoke a big hog leg make yourself a beautiful home smoked ham!

Could make your own beer with a beer making kit. They are reasonably priced and it makes about 2 gallons. That is if you like beer lol
I tried this a couple years back and had a blast. Made some really good beers. Gave up drinking last year for health reasons though. That would be perfect for these days for sure too.

Prayers sent, chicken soup has healing property's they say, smoke some chicken eat half make soup out of the left overs, a 20+ lbs brisket at 200- 225 will take ya about 18-20 hours lol

I have had a kit sitting in my closet that I got for Christmas two years ago. I'm always saying I'm gonna do it one weekend but then I forget about it haha

A good pot of chicken and sausage gumbo, or vegetable beef soup, is a good way to spend the better part of the day prepping at the cutting board and then simmering on the stove, with a great payoff.

Hey Russ, what county are you in? I'm in Volusia county.
Just south of you in Brevard.

I'm all in for some good gumbo so that will be on the list for sure. Also plan on doing a pepper stout beef. I always seem to be rushed when I make one so it never turns out quite like I want it. With nowhere to go and nothing to do I figure this will be a great time to perfect it.

We are doing Gumbo today. Great winter meal. I was in NOLA about 10 years ago and picked up a cook book from the Gumbo Shop. Fantastic recipe.

I found a nice gumbo recipe I'm giving a shot as well. Nothing fancy but once I make the stock and roux it will take a while I'm sure.

Pepper stout beef is tomorrow.

Gumbo doesn't take long. About 1 hr. Chicken is falling apart at 50 min. Can't cook any longer. Use store bought roux, boneless thighs, and chicken broth.

Its not the Gumbo itself that takes long according to the recipes I found. It is all the prep, also if I make the roux and make the stock which I will be doing.
