Got up to 500.. took longer than i expected.. but it is like 5 degrees out side. Here is the issue.. once at 500.. turn grill to low, temp stays at 500, no control of temp.

Unless.. you turn nob like you are turning it off, then you can get it to start dropping temp just fine. Any ideas?

So, does it stop rising temp at 500 and top out? or would it continue to clime if you left it closed and on full burners?

Seems like it stopped, but not 100% once i turned burners down by move towards off i got it to settle at 300.. at that point i stopped.

If you have all of the burners still on but on LOW, you are doing good to get as low as 300. I would expect hotter than 500 on the top end, but your thermometer might not be very accurate as well.

No if i turn the burners to low it stays at 500.. if i turn them towards off, the opposite way of low, they get less and i can get it to 300. It goes from off to high. Its like they work opposite.

I never thought about thermometer so u might be right on top end temp.

OH, that is strange. Have you watched the flames while you turn the knobs to see what they are doing? Any chance someone did a NG to LP or vice versa conversion on that grill?

They do nothing.. it was natural gas and i changed it to propane.

Did it work when you got it? Thinking the valve spool (and knob) got re-oriented.

Are you basing your temperatures on an original hood thermometer? I wouldn't doubt that thermometer is no longer accurate. Also, any hood thermometer has to be taken as just a rough gauge. Do you have access to an accurate oven thermometer?

I will try that soon. But still now way it was at 500, move it to low then nothing changes, move it to off way, watch flame drop and temp goes to 300.. either way thermo might not be spot on but its moving with flame heights.

Those ridges on the knob look backwards to me in the photo. The tapered end should point to OFF, to my way of thinking.

They were like that when i bought it.. i think they only go on one way. Ill look again when i get home

I think the ridges are for gripping and the tapered end is for indicating...could be wrong, though. You're right, it only goes on one way, which would mean someone took it apart and put it back together wrong. It's a long-shot, but people do dumb things all the time. Good luck!
