Edit, trouble with some photos.

Wanted to try the new Weber charcoal on something neutral, so I figured a couple of slices of lightly salted, uncured pork belly would be a good test.

My pic of the belly before cooking won't post.

After about 50 minutes, not real accurate, but close enough.

As expected, they did not light as fast as Kbb, Kcomp, etc., more on par with Stubb's.
Using a chimney would surely speed things up.
The smoke during light up was fairly light and pleasant, not as woodsy as lump, but not bad at all in my opinion.

Burn time seems very good.
Ash production not measured, but seems fairly low, and they fell through the basket/grate on their own.
No wood was used, but the pork belly did have a nice hint of smoke.

At its present cost of a buck a pound I'm sure I won't be using a lot of it, and it needs to be tested on a WSM cook to see how it performs for barbecue.

Thanks for the visit!

Thanks for the update Bob. Apparently the new Weber charcoal doesn't like it's picture taken more than once.

I can only see the first picture in the thread.

I see 5 pictures Bob and thanks for the write up, like you said would want to see some long slow cooks with it to see how it holds up. At a buck a pound I will not be buying it, I'm happy with KBB and Stubbs.

Gremlins I tell you!
I haven't been doing anything else with them, I give up.
Funny thing is they didn't want to load from Picasa on the hard drive up to Google photos, so I brought them up from Google photos.
maybe my SD card needs formatting ?!? or time for a different pic hosting service. :(

Probably, but if it's good beer, and after the day it sounds like you've had, you won't care.
Got that right Cliff!

I think Picasa has finally gone totally Kaput, none of my photos will upload to the cloud now.
Plus I've been dealing with Win 10 for a couple months now on a new laptop.

Sometimes it's best just to walk away and start fresh tomorrow. Bet you'll nail it after a good rest. Good luck Bob!

Too late, I tried something else. it's supposed to make my pics public, and that seems to be one of the problems with Google photos.
They may be showing, they might not be, and if they are they could go away any minute now.

Thanks for the review Bob. I also am only seeing the first pic. I agree as others have stated that $1 per pound is a bit cost prohibitive for me though knowing Weber's reputation I have no doubt it is an excellent product.
