TVWGG Hot Dog Taste-Off

Clint has it correct. In Chicago that crime will land you in hot dog jail. Funny story: In the Gladstone Park area of Chicago (I think it's Gladstone, anyway it's on Milwaukee Ave on the NW side), there is a famous beef place. Back in my Real Estate days I had an opportunity to list a house for someone over on Catalpa Ave and Cicero. On way back out to Belvidere I had to bring my friend who'd never been to Chicago (she thought Woodfield was Chicago) to this beef place. We're standing in line get to the window and I get question asked "how you want it?" and of course being a native BNR Chicagoan I answer dipped with peppers. Next comes my friend. She says "oh just ketchup". You could have heard a pin drop. Every patron every kitchen staff turned around and stared. Not believing what they'd heard. Then the laughing started. It was priceless :D

We don't have hot dogs very often because of the high sodium. But I do like Hebrew National or Ball Park when we do.
Also no ketchup is allowed, mustard, onions. pickle relish and sport peppers if available

Happy 4th, we the people!

According to a USA Today poll (Motto: Taking America's Pulse by Mashing a Thumb on a Throbbing Neck-Vein), 2 percent of Americans put mayonnaise on their hot dogs.

Two questions pop immediately to mind: (1) Who are these people? and (2) How quickly can we deport them?

My best friend used to put mayo on his dogs!😂

Down here lots of people put mayo on them. Hebrew national or Nathan's are our go-to dogs. I've become a fan of Whataburger's spicy ketchup so it's a 50/50 mustard to ketchup ratio. I do have a very different one for you guys though. A few years back on a camping trip we had hot dogs the first night and the wife forgot condiments. So she ended up putting cypress Grove Humboldt fog cheese on them. The west coast guys have probably seen that cheese around. Anyway, it was pretty good and we have had it again a couple times since.

There is a reason I’m not a big mustard fan, when I was about 6 years old I had my first hot dog and my first taste of mustard. My cousin asked me if I liked mustard and I said I never had it. She loaded the dog with mustard and I didn’t eat hot dogs or mustard for years! Dirty Harry convinced me to try it again and it was okay. 😁

Any one from the Chicago area remember Sinai Kosher? Sarah Lee owned them and shut down it's plant back in 08.
Use to be a factory outlet store by my parents on Pershing. ( 39th st )
Red Hot Chicago is a good one also. The owner used to work for Vienna.

Not a hot dog. Way better.
First it taste better .
Second it has a coarser texture and a snap to it.

Hot dogs are gross by comparison.
Not specific to the Manda sausage you mentioned, but in general I feel the opposite. I enjoy a good sausage from time to time, but sometimes the casing can be too snappy, and sometimes the texture can be too coarse. I like a grilled skinless hot dog with good flavor and spices. And oddly enough, I like a good truck stop roller dog as long as it's not overcooked. But as they say, "In matters of taste, there can be no argument!"

I do, once or so a year, make homemade franks.

But when we get store bought, we like Alpine brand, specifically the “dinner” franks. They are made in Stockton.
Our 2nd favorite is ball park angus.

We like them grilled with various toppings but NO KETCHUP OR CATSUP.

My personal favorites are Chicago dogs or mustard topped with relish and chopped Pepperonconi.

The semi-famous Seattle dog is generally served on a pretzel roll slathered with cream cheese and topped with grilled onions, sometimes peppers added and mustard and Sriracha hot sauce. It’s a must for a Mariner’s home game.

Alpine was (still is?) the official hot dog of the San Francisco Giants.

As long as we're talking baseball hot dogs, I also like a good Dodger Dog.

Also, a good hot dog at Fenway Park! I like the split top buns.

And my favorite Oakland A's used to have a decent Coliseum Dog back in the day. Don't get all up in my face about the ketchup!

We like our dogs cooked black and smothered in onions and mustard. Brand does not matter much so we buy the cheap Bar S at $1.00+/pack. Seldom have them. Cook 4 of the pack and end up tossing the other 4.
