So today is the birthday for our office manger at work... she is great in keeping us all on track. We got her flowers, cake and chocolate.... she really appreciated it.
I sent her (as I do for birthday friends and relatives) the classic Three Stooooges bit set to The Beatles tune:
I got a tale... which is thoroughly appropriate in this thread, and here....
Many years ago, several jobs and a couple of states away, the VP of Administration celebrated her 50th birthday. Apparently, this number had some significance to her, and as a result, her buddies arranged for the entire office to wear black that day. Decorate her office in black crepe and black roses. The whole nine yards. Needless to say, this disrupted her morning routine a bit. A few minutes after she finally got to her office, she came bouncing down to my office (not an unpleasant sight in any way, I might add.)
"You turned my computer black & white. Bring the color back."
I started laughing and almost fell out of my chair. I already knew what had happened. This was in the heady days of Windows 386, and I was buying Video7 Fastwrite VGA cards (I did mention that I'm old, right?) These cards tried to figure what kind of monitor was connected, and if it couldn't find it, would assume black & white. The rule was always turn your monitor on first, or turn the whole mess on with a power strip. You can see where this is going.......
"You turned your computer on first this morning, didn't you? Just shut it down gracefully and start the computer again."
"Oh, yeah......."
Best practical jokes are the ones that people play on themselves.
