QuadCopter recommendations?

Did some flips with the Syma inside today. We have 9ft ceilings, so it wasn't completely stupid. But I did have a couple close calls. Kids were impressed. :p

My 6 (almost 7) year old has been getting some lessons outside with the V911. He's starting to understand what the controls do and enjoys flying it. He responds well to the 'kill it' command by cutting the throttle and letting it fall before getting into real trouble. :D

Another thing we've had some fun with in the last year or so is launching Estes model rockets. Low cost of entry and a lot of fun!

Nice Jim! They do best earlier in the flight while the batteries are closer to full, otherwise they take a little more time to recover.

looks like a good portion of this video was filmed with a quad or something similar:

How do these quads capture video. Does it transmit back to something like your phone or does it capture on a flash type drive for later viewing. I'm wondering how one could send a quad up for a flight and view the video simultaneously. I'm guessing it's a matter of how much you're willing to spend.

the options are pretty much limitless, unlike my knowledge, but I think they use a cheap FPV camera (first person view), and then something a little nicer to capture video.

You can spend as much as you want, but I don't think that's the limiting factor anymore....

I just received the final pieces to my very basic quad a week or so back, dunno if I'll ever get into fpv

:D

There are a bunch of trees in my front yard and across the street---there are 2 trees that hummingbirds live in that'll chase it sometimes (now I wanna go out and fly!) There's also a hawk that frequents my back yard.....it actually plonked off my sliding glass door in the back a few years ago....... I don't see the hawks very often but sometimes someone will point them out.

I just had my quad out on Sunday after a long rest. I'll be chasing my nieces and nephews around with it on Thursday. :D

Yup... Very true.

And there's a Very Fine line leading into that commercial endeavors category !

The FAA intended to force powered parachute pilots to get a general aviation pilots license years ago, and instead sport pilot and Far 103 regulations were the end result. I would assume that something similar would happen with the drones.

Most of it seems reasonable to me. The 400 ft ceiling is a bit low though. Hopefully common sense will prevail.
It's a nice sunny day here headed to 50, a great day to fly.
