Painters Tape, a Sharpie & OCD

We have been throwing away way to many leftovers lately so I had to get my refrigerator back in order.
Since we started our labeling system there has been much less waste and now we know what we have.

Going to steal that idea, no more mystery meat in the back of the fridge and no more guess what it is and is it edible by the smell test.

That's a great idea with the painters tape. Need the date for sure on the label. Like Rich says every time he looks for something in the fridge, what surprises are we going to find??? You open the fridge door and the girls are right there looking for any hand outs!!

I use a similar system with my vacuum-sealed foods in the freezer, but I write directly on the top of the bag (the part that will be cut off when opening it). Typically, I use this format: "<Food> - <amount/weight (unless it's obvious)> - <date packed>". For example, I found BSCB for $0.99/lb last weekend, so I stocked up, broke it down and froze it. I've now got about 10 pouches of "ChickBrst (thin) 4/1.5lb 03/19/2016" (this seems to be the ideal size for our family of three - just enough to minimize leftovers), a few pouches of "ChickBrst (thick) 4/2.0lb 03/19/2016" and the bits & pieces left over go into pouches like "ChickBrst (bits) 1.0 lb 03/19/2016" (just right for stuff like stir fries, tacos or quesadillas).

Buying bulk and repackaging like this has really helped us to better manage portions and minimize the amount of leftovers we generate.

Something's missing: Where's the ones labeled "B-E-E-R?"

The beer is very important. So important that it has it's own dedicated refrigerator in the garage.
The temperature is kept very cold in this refrigerator.

Great idea! But I have to argue about the OCD part. If you were really OCD you would have used a labelmaker instead of the sharpie.....

Bob, my father used the old school Dymo where you had to squeeze for each letter. He labeled everything, I mean everything. While I love my father dearly, I am trying to be different in some ways. Thus the hand written labels.
