New Weber pellet grills for 2020

Can’t wait to see this thing go!! There goes my work production next week. I’ll be checking this thread!!

Yes, note the tall barrel shape. A little like the Traeger Timberline that has three built in shelves. The manual shows two shelves. It looks like possibly they are regular steel plated with stainless. It says “plated,” but the pictures don’t seem to show porcelain color grates. Plated stainless is better than no stainless, but in time they tend to peel. I hope this compromise isn’t indicative of what Weber used for things like hinges and nuts and bolts.

p.s. I recently sent Weber an email begging them to use real stainless hardware and grates on upcoming products. I got a quick response that my comments would be passed on to “the team.” I would love it if I actually heard back from someone at Weber who has real input into what materials Weber uses.

That would probably be the accountant.

Bob,
Yeah, for sure:rolleyes:! I even said in my email that Weber needed to put the bean counters at bay and spend (and charge) a few dollars more to make their grills last like they should.

Since I am an accountant myself, I figured I could get by with that snide remark:D!

Sure sounds like these pellets grills are poised to break through into the main stream and it looks like Weber is getting in while the getting is good.

It appears to me that, like it or not, pellet grills are the next wave - like gas grills were in the late seventies/early eighties. When Rich is seeing pellets in grocery stores and Walmart is moving out charcoal to make room for them, it sure seems like this wave is starting to gain serious momentum. Not to say there aren’t issues or downsides.

I think when Weber hits the market we will see some competitors getting thinned out, although just like for gas and charcoal grills there will always be a market for a low cost alternative. With electronics and moving parts, though, I would be cautious.

Or that gasser sales are waayyy off. Reason I asked if this was normal for this time of year or maybe they're over stocked due to losing sales to pellet poopers.

I'm thinking about selling the 26 Kettle I bought a few months ago and putting that money into a pellet pooper. The pellet grill will do everything I want the 26 for and more...

Lynn, I am in a similar boat. Shortly before I landed my lightly used Rec Tec, I had finished rebuilding a classic ‘00 flat top 26” Kettle. It is a pretty one that I set up with a stainless charcoal grate and an awesome stainless main grate made by Mark Baron owner of Killa Grilla.

Beautiful wood handles my artist friend helped restore. Even converted to having a twist off ash container instead of the original flat pan.

I did all this not to make a museum piece but a working “rib machine” figuring I could do as many as 6 racks at a time with ease.

Then the Rec Tec pellet grill came into my life and my 26” project has wound up sitting unused. I tried selling on the WKC site but couldn’t get a serious offer that would cover even just my hard cost. So, for now, I am keeping it - stored inside - while I rethink my plan. It is probably worth more to me than anyone who would buy it. Kettle buyers/collectors want a low price bargain deal. That is, other than really exotic colored very old kettles for which the well healed among them will pay almost any price for a rare example. Mine is an extra nice 26” kettle but basic black and not rare enough to attract their interest.

Jon, I saw that pic and was wondering how the ash catcher and wooden handles got together :) , I read now that you added the catcher.

I hope there's a market for the 26 Kettle. I know there's demand on this forum and the BBQ Brethren, but I need to sell locally. They rarely show up on CL or FB Marketplace.

I don't know much about pellet grills, so is there a reason why they would make the flavorizer bars stainless and not the heat distribution plate, other than cost reduction?

Weber has cooking space by square inch, I want to know length and width in inches. That tells me more about fitting meats on the grill.
