KFC over Coshell charcoal

With several good reviews of Coshell coconut shell charcoal I decided to try a bag.
Usual prep for my Kettle Fried Chicken.
Andy's breading, and a spray of Pam to moisten.
Indirect until about done, then direct to crisp up.

The chicken was very good, but not as crisp as usual.

I didn't find that the Coshell burned as hot as many have reported, and it was pretty well burned out for the crisping finish.
Two baskets half filled were used, same as I use with Kbb, or Stubbs.
It took much longer to light, and produced, IMO, as much ash as Kbb.
Low smoke, and no real smell during lighting or burning.
At this point I'm not impressed, but will give it another go soon.
Perhaps I have a bad bag.

Your Kettle fried Chicken looks Fantastic! Thanks for the report on the Coshell charcaol. I have been wondering how it performed.

hmmm... Funny, I used Stubb's last night for grill roasted taters and chuck eyes...
Taters on about 30 minute head start
by the time I got the meat on, my Stubbs was nearly burnt out...

but, we're not talking about my mishaps...
GREAT LOOKING BIRD BOB!! :D

Looks fantastic to me, Bob. Great looking recipe for that chicken. I'll look for it on the board. What is it about mashed potatoes and green bean sides that round out a beautiful cook so well?
