Kettle full o' catfish

This is my 26" with a few rather large MS catfish fillets...after grilling about 9 minutes perpendicular to the grate, turning once, and removing the chunk of pecan wood from the coals. No recipe really, just a liberal dusting of Weber N. Orlean's Cajun seasoning and sprayed with canola oil.

My wife toasted pecans for topping and served with giant Lima beans and some buttered Uncle Ben's.

Thanks for checking my fish out, but I'm posting because if you haven't tried grilling catfish yet, you really ought to! Don't forget the pecans, either. If toasted properly, they're the icing on the cake and are really good with the buttered rice.

Have a good 'un!
Dave

Thanks, Tim. Only wish they looked as good as they tasted. I use a big fish spatula (and a regular one on top) to flip and remove and usually have no problem keeping catfish together. Oh, and perpendicular to the grate makes it easier as well.

That looks great Dave, thanks for the posting this as I really dont grill fish much and enjoy learning new ways to grill it.

I have never tried grilled catfish before only fried, they sure do look great!!!. Seeing those lima beans bring back bad childhood memories though.

Great catfish! Love the pecan addition.

Jim, my wife's toasted pecans are the bomb. As long as her mother-in-law or other distractions aren't too much, she toasts them to perfection in her cast iron skillet, with some butter, lemon juice, parsley, salt and cayenne.

Can't go wrong with that meal Dave ....I really like eating catfish weather it's off the grill or smoker.

Excellent looking catfish Dave! I'm with John about the Lima beans too.. too many childhood memories...BUT maybe doing them on the grill would help!!:D

Here's one more tip for those that haven't done much catfish grilling. When I first started grilling catfish, I'd dip the fish in oil and then grill. I learned that the more oil I could shake off before putting on the grill, the better, because there was less oil dripping on the coals. Well, lightly spraying with the canola is even better, and the flavor from your smoke wood isn't covered up by all the "oily smoke". As long as your fish isn't waterlogged from being frozen or something, it doesn't take much oil at all to prevent sticking.

Thanks for all the kind words!
Dave

Brad, the grill gauge was only around 350 for most of the cook, presumably since I used Kbb and my grill's now nice and seasoned. I also tweaked the lid again last week and now it seems to have a better fit. So who knows? Maybe I might some low-n-slow on it, after all.

Those were BIG MS farmed fresh catfish fillets that Publix had on sale for $4.99lb. The only really tasty catfish I've ever caught were either smaller channel cats or flatheads, but I don't have a boat to do much of that, anyway. Makes me think back to hot Mississippi summer days on the banks of my uncle's catfish ponds. Those were some good times.

Awesome display Dave!
I L♥VE catfish!
butt please tell me... what did you do with ALL the fish?!
Have a party??

Brad, i do not know if there is a Pick N' Save in your area butt they also have Catfish at 4.99 lb
I'm getting some for the weekend.
Butt then, Sendik's has Tilapia for 4.99 lb on Fridays for the next six to eight weeks

Dave, AWESOME POST! I can Taste all that GREATNESS all the way here!!
