I will just leave this here

Yah, still not worth anything close to $200, but the guy does have a way with words.

Well. I said I wouldn't do it so it's in my car now. The complete set of durawood plus the right side swing table was calling to me.

I’m thinking that I might see if I can have my cabinetmaker buddy make me up a set of replacement slats for my Genny.
I am DONE buying anything, I might need to replace my patio heater though, drat!

Making Progress

Taking these to a woodworking buddy to get cut to length.

RCP’s grates and flavorizers are asking what is taking so long???

Wow, I can't wait for an "AFTER" picture on that build.

What kind of wood and what kind of finish? Where did you get the wood from?

Jason,
I don’t want to be an enabler, so stand your ground. (I am trying, too:rolleyes:!) I have to admit, though, that you don’t very often see a green hood on those later Genesis Silvers. Looks sharp!

Near as I can tell that is only a two burner. I know some people may want a smaller grill but in my opinion the three burner Weber's are already on the smaller side. So I have shied away from all the two burners.

Thanks, Bruce! It’s redwood. It’s bare wood, no finish. I brought it home yesterday from a local lumber yard. I cheated on the firebox and had it media blasted because it was so reasonable.

That has to be the prettiest cleaned up firebox I have ever seen. And that's saying something because I have seen Bruce's fire boxes cleaned up to New. When that is done it will make my restorations look like secondhand knock-offs.

Like I said, I cheated and went to a media blaster because of the grill's intended use. My wife misses having a gas grill that she can cook on during the week. Understandably, she wants something quick and convenient (read: NOT charcoal). And I want a good rotisserie set up and have become jealous of all the beautiful restorations here. So when I brought up getting a gasser, she was keen on the idea, but not real enthusiastic about a used one filled with someone else's "seasoning." So this grill is being brought back to new; new burners, flavorizers, grates, and even new black control knobs and switches. I'm not very skilled with an angle grinder, so when I found a local blaster that would do the firebox and lid end caps for $75, I was all over it. I know it will be well "seasoned" within a couple of weeks of when I finish it, but it will be our "seasoning." ;)

Taking enabling a step further:eek:, that is definitely a three burner. I don’t believe they even made a green hood for the later Silver A. My wife would kill me if she knew I was tempting someone else to get yet another grill!

Thanks Jason!

Wow! Looks great! I am jealous of your West Coast access to redwood. It is unavailable where I live. Like the others, I look forward to seeing it come together. It will be a great thread to tag for our grill restoration sticky.

I don’t think there is any doubt that a quality media blasting setup would be a huge plus for grill restoration work. My limited research keeps turning up very negative reviews on moderately priced gear. To set up decently looks to me would require a pretty powerful compressor and spending enough to get a sprayer that doesn’t jam every five minutes. Then there is media cost. And some kind of containment big enough to work on a firebox. So, I think your $75 was well spent for a keeper, even if too much $ for most flip grill scenarios.

My saying on uncleaned grills is that somebody else’s seasoning is called “crud,” while your own crud is called “seasoning!”:D

If I could get a cook Box and end caps Done for 75 bucks, I would probably do that on every one of my rehabs
