I will just leave this here

Anyone ever see one of these before in the wild?

I haven't seen one in person, but read a little about them from posts on the Weber Kettle Club. They really are a Weber product. Most people say they were not effective. I could keep a brigade of them busy around my house if they did work, but not for that price!

Weber also made firepits (as you probably have seen here on occasion) and they even made lanterns. The WKC folks are as serious about collecting the lanterns as they are kettles. Like the kettles, the lanterns came in a variety of colors. I guess Weber was looking for ways to expand their offerings with things that loosely tied in with backyards and grilling.

That old blue has been floating around for at least 2 years. I have seen it posted on at least
a half dozen grill pages on FB and a few times on KC craigslist.

Now it definitely has to be a joke! Same plastic barrel, same bench legs in background, on both the CA and IN listings. Pretty funny though. Would be an interesting conversation piece if you hauled this out to a 4th of July picnic!

Where does the fuel go? It has what would appear to be a cook surface. Does the coal go directly on the bottom of the plastic barrel?

Jason it appears that somebody made this up for fun, and it is making its way around the country. Should one use fuel in this, such as charcoal, it wouldn't be long until the barrel became fuel as well!

I was poking fun at it. My thought is it's more of a scam than a joke. If someone inquired about that thing I wouldn't be surprised if the payment instructions include some kind of money wire. Asking for more pictures and details would probably lead to nonsense email and text explaining how to pay.

Or am I just too cynical?

Someone usually posts it as message board fodder for a place such as we have here.
Then the guy that posts the ad, typically will post the replies he gets from the know-it-alls
that email him telling him it will never work all the while looking to see if anyone is dumb enough
to try and actually buy it.
