I will just leave this here

This is my first post since signing up for this board, and I wanted to first thank everyone on this board for creating such an incredible resource on this subject. Over the weekend I picked up what appears to be a genesis 1000 (please correct me if I'm wrong, I'll attach a picture). I've never done this before, but I feel like I've awakened something within me. I had a few questions if anyone would/could answer:

1. What kind of paint to most use on the firebox and sides of the lid, and on the frame? How do I prepare these surfaces?
2. Can I switch out this grill with entirely new burners/hose, but keep the manifold? For example, this burner. My grill came with this hose, but not sure it connects to modern tanks or a new burner? Also, is it possible to remove the hose from the manifold? The manifold seems to be in good condition.

Thanks so much.

Welcome Rick.
The serial number should be located under the control panel.
Punch that in over at the Weber website for all the info on that grill.
Check out this sticky in the gas grills forum for tons of info.

Thats an old style regulator and most people just swap it our for a new version available on Amazon. Make sure you use TFE paste on all LP threaded connections.

Have any of you seen or used on of these smoke boxes? I was told it was a Weber. How does this one get used? And what’s that bracket attach to?
