Grilled Ramen Burger

Ever since I first heard about them last year, I've been kind of obsessed with the idea of a ramen burger. Not long after, I successfully made a ramen "bun," but the entire burger never came to fruition until last night.

To make a "bun," I cooked some ramen and packed it into a two deli containers. I stacked them with a third filled with water to compress them. Good compression is key, because one "bun" held together better than the other which I think was due to one getting pressed more. After a few hours, they easily popped out of the containers. I brushed them with sesame oil and grilled them a bit to crisp up a few of the noodles:

I had freshly ground pork on hand, which I mixed with chopped garlic, onion, oyster mushrooms, sesame oil, black pepper, and oyster sauce:

The burger got a slice of american cheese, and was dressed with some pickled ramps, arugula, kewpie mayo, and more oyster sauce:

I got to say that it came out way better than I anticipated, and despite the bottom "bun" sort of falling apart, I thoroughly enjoyed stuffing it in my face:

sides were quick pickled cuke with basil, and roasted corn with miso butter

I have to make my own also... You did a great job.
First time I saw a cook like this was a guy on you tube " ballistic bbq" that guy can cook

I'll be honest- I was pretty skeptical about ramen noodles going anywhere near a decent burger, but glad I clicked on your post anyhow. That is a gorgeous plate of food. Would putting maybe some egg and butter in the noodles to help get a nice crust on them be the answer to your "buns" not staying together? Great photography BTW, your use of depth-of-field really sent this post over the top.

Great pics, and great post. Good seeing your cooks again. This looks like a fun meal, and the pork burgers sound great.

Thanks everyone! Don't be shy, give this a try. It's cool and pretty easy to do

Your posts are few and far between these daze but they never cease to amaze me.

I've seen a lot of people come and go here, and I never wanted to be one of them. My priorities have changed a bit and I seem to be doing less grilling these days and I'm also more focused on some local food groups that I work with. When I do have something done on a Weber product that's worth sharing, I'll be sure to post it here.

They don't really need any glue. I'm sure you've experienced left over noodles and how they glue themselves together in the shape of the container. I think I had better success with the instant ramen noodles, which everyone who wants to give this a go should have easy access too.

maybe cook them in a minimal amount of water to concentrate the starch, and leave them slightly wet when packing?

These were the big thing at last years state fair and I'm still ****ed I didn't wait in line to try one out. I wondered how the bun stayed together and what kind of texture/consistency it had. Great pics thanks for sharing, might have to give it a go!

Thats a first for me never heard of Ramen Burger, but again like many said will have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

It takes two hands to handle a whopper!
maybe three hands to handle a grilled Ramen Burger...
quite interesting Jeff!!

Interesting idea J. I agree with those above - excellent job on the cook and your pics look like they are right out of Food & Wine...

Regards,

John
