Great American Eclipse 2017

Would you eat the moon if it was made of ribs?

no difference just nw of Toronto. Didn't expect one in any case so I'm not dissappointed. Next one (like+90%) will be 2024 (Fort Erie/Buffalo) and that one I'll get ready for.

It's almost over here now, it got weird, eerie, etc. but not as spectacular as I thought it would.
Over-hyped probably.
The temp didn't drop but maybe a degree or two.
Didn't get many pics, but here's the deck near totality.

Wow Bob. Stunning shot of your deck. Ours was only 87% and it was hardly dark at all. What it looks like maybe 7:30 at night in the summer. Snapped a few quick shots just for the heck of it. This was within a few minutes of our maximum eclipse. I didn't expect much with the photos...just a whim. Was kind of worried about my camera so I didn't do much fooling around. Apparently Dutch Bros. was giving away free glasses this week in advance of the eclipse and they were frantically trying to get a recall on the glasses this morning.

Thanks Cliff!
I't's with my cell phone, didn't try to get any with my camera since I don't have a solar filter to protect it.

Nice shots, Bob and Cliff. We were at 82% and not all that dark - felt like a very hazy day.

Clear blue skies here in centreal Nebraska. Ended up making pizzas instead of a cream can cook. Local radio station played Here "Comes the Sun" by The Beatles right as the diamond ring / sun reappeared. Pretty good old time with family.

I was about 80 miles from ground zero with a 98.5% predicted blockage, but frankly, I didn't think it was much different than any other eclipse I've witnessed before.

To be blunt, this eclipse was a non-event compared to the hype. I think Jet Propulsion Lab got there calculations off or something. According to the computer generated model, we should have been darker than we were in my opinion. I saw one street light come on, but that was about it. I did capture some neat ground photos though.

The first photo is of me aiming a pair of binoculars, backwards, at the sun and projecting the image onto the ground. The lower image is sunlight passing through the trees onto the ground.

In Fairmont, Nebraska, on an old WWII training runway, it was amazing. Well worth the 3 hour drive, and we'll do it again in 7 years.

That sounds cool. I had the thrill of flying in a WWII trainer a few weeks back. What an experience!!
