Ever heard of a wheel barrow barbecue?

Saw this today in one of those "I grew up in the 60's" Facebook groups and thought it was kind of genius.

"Clothes lines, North Main Army surplus stores, searching for car parts on Cadillac Hill, bringing our own food and drink to the Rubidoux drive in, Quonset Hut houses in Arlanza, hand me downs, vegetable gardens and wheel barrow bbq’s. Coming out of the Great Depression and war time shortages, we ‘got by’ and ‘made do’……and were grateful for what we had with style and grace."

This looks like something that my Grandpa might have tried. He was the kind of
guy who could find a way to do many things......

While the Quonset Huts, wheel barrow bbq, the Army Navy store are pretty much gone, the drive-in still exists.
Still looking for Cadillac Hill... ;)

Yes, I didn't divulge the location, but since you're close by, you know it's referring to Riverside, CA where I was born.

Genius. But I can't figure out what they're cooking in that picture. It's so thin.

I've seen that done with some sand, briquettes, and a grate made from an old refrigerator shelf.

Given that the "grate" was zinc plated, I declined the burger that was offered!
