Duraflame buys B&B charcoal

Listening to Greg Rempe's podcast , he says Duraflame bought B&B. I can't find any news story on this but its probably true.

So , expect B&B to go downhill quickly .

Well, that's not necessarily good news. I've been burning B+B since my local hardware store/chain has started carrying it (and they've gone whole hog, carrying most of the line in-store.) I hope that changes aren't in store for the products.

Wasn't it Duraflame that produced some really great charcoal back a few years ? Seem to remember posts regarding this...

Went to our Costco yesterday to get a few items and some Kingsford Pro that was on sale. First day of the sale and at 1 pm there were two twin packs left when I got mine. Another person asked one of the employees if they had any more and the response was "no that's all we got". Sold out in three hours!

Sorry guys, this is my fault. Anytime I find I product I love using they either stop making it or change it and screw it up. My wife says I'm the kiss of death. I have my fingers crossed not much will change.
Gary, this was me and employers in IL, between 1994 and 2006. Pretty much anybody who hired me as an FTE either closed up shop, got bought out, etc. Any corporate names that have risen from those ashes are but a pale shadow of their former selves. California Microwave, U.S.Robotics, 3Com, Manufacturers' Services Limited, and Pharmacia.

I have been reading about this topic here and a couple other BBQ/Grilling sites I frequent. About all the good or bad that may or may not happen concerning B&B products. And the one thing that comes across to me is whether you like it or dislike it, it makes Kingsford products that much more appealing, to me anyway. Good or bad it has stayed relatively consistent over the years. And that is a big plus in my book. FWIW, I like and use B&B as it is now. Especially like their Char-Logs, and have several bags in my garage. I only hope B&B gets better, or a least stays the same quality it is now.

Just a quick google search shows Clorox owns Duraflame or did and they also own Kingsford. I'll have to doublecheck that.

I remembered seeing this on tvwb home page.
It is the third picture down this page.
I am not sure if Chris did a review on it years ago or not but yeah you were right.

I should have finished the article I read. It seems like Duraflame is a private company now. They also own Western Wood Products, though which are pretty common in Academy stores along with B&B as far as seeing wood chunks and bags-o-wood, etc.

I’ve been using B&B bricks for years and all their stuff. It’s been the best for me. I can load the tray in my Backwoods chubby and it will hold at 225-250 for a day and a half with no attention and no additional charcoal. Its truly amazing. Should I buy up all I can find now? My experience too is when something changes hands it’s time to cut the cost and you know where that happens, the quality.

You're correct, Bob. Duraflame briquettes were a really good product back in the day and I went through my share...although I can't remember how many years ago "in the day" was.;)

Not sure how old that pic is, I can't remember when I last saw 24lb. bags of Kingsford.

Sorry Lynn I’m new to this but should have responded here. Selling out typically means cost cutting and quality is the cut. 👎🏻

I remember seeing a review on Duraflame lump. IIRC they used to be sold at K-mart.
