Bumping an old thread here, but I just tried B&B competition briquettes for the first time, and it stinks. Ordinarily, when grilling chicken on the WSM (no drip pan) I get great results, but this time, the chicken had an almost creosote flavor about it.Listening to Greg Rempe's podcast , he says Duraflame bought B&B. I can't find any news story on this but its probably true.
So , expect B&B to go downhill quickly .
The charcoal was well ashed over, so no issue there. This product does leave a lot of ash in the bowl, that tells me there are fillers of some kind in the product. On the plus side, the briquettes do get hot.
