Do you have this cookbook by Ray Lampe?

I stopped buying cookbooks a long time ago. I get my recipes from the internet and store then in an app called Paprika. It allows me to easily (insanely) download recipes from different websites and my iPad, iPhone, and iMac versions are all synchronized together.

Mark, you should know by now that I am a paper recipe lover. lol

I won't bore you with how, but today I picked this book to work on (printing out recipes we might make some day.)

and I checked amazon to see what other cookbooks he had.

Its funny you said that. I used to collect cook books and at 1 point, had over 500. Needless to say I down sized. I now have, uh, maybe 30. I do have close to 400 recipes stored in Paprika.

I have that one .

I bought it when first released. It doesn't get opened much these days.

Hi Lynn, same here. I am hoping to change that. But I have been spending so much time elsewhere here that I am not getting much done in his book except read the beginning, which is interesting. I was surprised to find out that he moved to Florida. Wonder if he is still here.

IDK, don't hear much about him these days. He's not competing any more. He was on Greg Rempe's BBQ Central podcast a couple months ago but I don't recall him saying anything about what he's doing. I think he's sort've a regular guest on that show, like once a month.

I also saw him on an episode of Discovery Channel's BBQ Brawl, I think. He was a judge.

I am trying to really cut back on buying any more cookbooks, but this looks like a good one. What to do, what to do?
Joan,
That book looks interesting, I'll be looking for it. I really enjoy cook books that have more than just recipes. Kent Rawlins' books for example. I try a few recipes that look good and on the shelf they go. My wife just shakes her head.
Just got this book today, from Amazon, 10 bucks used, like new. It was published by The Kansas City Star and is a compilation of articles that ran in the news paper going back to the 1890's. Lots of history with only a few recipes.

Just one more for the collection.
You would think as much as I read about cooking I would be a better cook! 😋

Colin, that does sound interesting. Hope you enjoy it. Maybe you could share a few things with us that you think we should know or such.

Thanks Chris, can't believe I NEVER looked there. This should make for some good reading, thanks again.

Chris, do you think you could get him to come back for some more questions or just to say hello and bring us up to date on what he has been doing?

Chris, it's a good thing I read the Q & A with Mr. Lampe. The very next recipe I was going to print from his book was the Spicy Margarita Marinade that someone called his attention to about the lime juice being left out of the book. Now I have the corrected version. Thanks again, that was very interesting reading and also fun.

PS- For those that have the book but did not read the Q & A, the marinade recipe should have said "1/3 cup fresh squeezed lime juice".

Funny you ask this. I ran into him several years after he did our Q&A and suggested he might come back for another visit, to promote his latest book, etc. He said no, he didn't see the point in doing another Q&A. I think he thought he would just get all the same questions again and it would be too repetitive.

What a shame, very sorry to hear that. I thought he would like the opportunity to promote his restaurant and or new book if he has one.
