Since Weber refused to make a bright red Genesis for the last 20 years,
I made my own. Huge thanks to Jeff at Independence Porcelain Enamel
for the gorgeous tomato red lid work.

My friend Greg found a perfect matching high temp paint.I wish there was a better matching gray for the high heat paints.
I found an industrial paint that says it can withstand sustained temps of 200 degrees, because I want to do a cabinet grill and frames in something other than black or silver. Hoping after a few flips this spring and summer I’ll have better funds to do some experiments.![]()
It might surprise you. I think those tests that determine max temps are done in an oven, where the ambient temp is the sustained temp. In the case of something like an end cap or a frame rail, the heat is being radiated into an ambient temp that is much lower which carries the heat away, like steam carries the heat away from boiling water. The actual temp that the coating fails may be higher than the sustained temp, especially if the manufacturer is conservative with their ratings.I wish there was a better matching gray for the high heat paints.

This is why I love this forum. That thought never once crossed my mind. I have quickly touched the frame close to the cookbox and it’s not skin searing hot. I'd have to ask him again what it was. I always like to use black when I repaint Webers
Not sure if you have seen this thread.I wish there was a better matching gray for the high heat paints.

I can ask him again if you want me to? I can probably get pics from him also. This is why I love this forum. That thought never once crossed my mind. The end cap is a different storyOne of these days I’ll have to remember to bring my surface temp reader home when I’m going to grill. Or remember to shoot the frame the next time I grill at work.
It’s an Axalta (formerly DuPont) coating which is incredibly durable. I painted a swingset from one of our local elementary schools with its sister product, and 5 years later, it still looks like the day I painted it.
I reserve seeing one, XCT or XTC? Some sort of a ceramic coating in a spray can of I recall correctly.
