Comcast Xfinity Thieves

So I gotta wonder. Does this company have people staying up late nights trying to figure ways out to screw customers and piss them off? So today I get this!

"We’re reaching out to let you know that we recently discovered an error where we have been inaccurately allowing more DVR recording storage than what is included with your current Xfinity TV service. Starting May 25, we’ll be correcting this error on our end and you’ll notice some changes when it comes to your DVR service.
We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause. As always, we appreciate our relationship and want to thank you again for choosing Xfinity to provide you with the best in entertainment.
Here’s what is changing:
On May 25, 2021, your available DVR recording storage will move to 20 hours and you’ll be able to record two programs at the same time.
However, if you'd like to keep the same features you have now, you can add DVR Service for $10 per month. This service includes 150 hours of DVR recording storage and simultaneous recording of up to six programs. All you’ll need to do is to sign in to My Account to get started.
If adding DVR service doesn’t sound like a good fit for you, that’s fine too. Just know that:
If you have more than 20 hours of recordings stored on your DVR on May 25, 2021, only your newest 20 hours of recordings will be saved. All other stored recordings will be removed.
If you have more than two recordings scheduled to record at the same time, you will need to make some quick changes to your recording schedule to select the two programs you would like to record.
Here are some other tips to prepare for this correction:
Visit this page to learn how to:
Check your DVR recording schedule to make sure that you don't have more than two recordings scheduled at the same time.
Keep the recordings that matter most by marking them "Save for One Year." Make room for new recordings you have scheduled by deleting recordings you've already viewed.
Preserve certain recordings, including any older recordings you would like to keep, by deleting your other recordings.
Please know that these changes will not affect your On Demand options. On Demand features an extensive collection of shows and movies that are available to watch at any time. Some shows or movies that you have recorded may be available On Demand.
If you have any questions, you can chat with Xfinity Assistant. If you've already upgraded your DVR service, please disregard this message.
Thank you again for being an Xfinity customer."

When I signed on to get the expanded package with DVR this was the original promised package. Now it's a mistake?! And oh luck me I get to live in a protected area so that they have no competition! I SO HATE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!

Yeah they pretty much all suck. They probably have an internal bonus program where employees get rewarded for coming up with the crappiest way to treat their customers.

Concast is one of the biggest sham companies out there. We use them, not because we want to, but for us it is about the only game in own for what we want. Always seems to be new “small tax or fee” on our bill. You can’t get this station without taking that station. I really don’t need the Korean station, but I have to have it to get a station or two I do want. And really, just how many ESPN stations do they think I need? Have learned one thing, when you deal with their customer service don’t let them wear you down. Keep hammering on them. They count on the fact most people do not want to deal with them.

When MetroNet came to our area I cancelled Comcast cable and internet.
They kept jacking up the price every year.

My only alternative is T-Mobile home internet and some kind of streaming service + Antenna for TV. I have the antenna but I am not sure that wireless 5g is going to work well enough. These companies make me sick.

Yea, I hate it when after you cancel, you get all these calls/mail saying "We want you back" and we'll give you blah blah blah for free.

Comcast sucks even when you pay them huge $ for a corporate 10GB connection.

I swear they hired Baghdad Bob to deny any service interruptions or issues. We have really good monitoring . They know it and still lie.

See my comments in the instant read thermometer thread. It's never about you, it's all about the money. Problem is with broadband environments, they're frequently a [fraudulently obtained] monopoly, and those are VERY difficult to fight. What you're noting & seeing is exactly why I run my own DVR/PVR. While I'm getting really great service from my ISP, their set top boxes/DVRs leave a lot to be desired. I won't talk about how much it's cost me to do this.... :)

I did discover here a couple of years ago that there may be ways to legally fight this crap. Contact your municipality about the broadband franchise contract, and it's terms of service. If you file a ticket, gripe at City Hall when the ToS and Service Level Agreements are not met. When we were on Mediacom, I caught them lying on just about every service call I made, and the way to get faster resolution was to email the city manager with the ticket details. Only once in the nearly 8 years on Mediacom was it really a customer premise issue, in spite of their script that says they have to send a tech out for a site visit (which nearly ALWAYS exceeded ToS/SLA.)

Wait a minute .............. you mean y'all aren't streaming ? Still using cable ? Or am I missing something here ?

Streaming almost entirely eliminates the need for a DVR, because almost everything is on-demand.

My only need for the cable company ( Cox Communications ) is for internet service. Then I stream everything. And since its just me and Mrs Dollar, I don't have a whole family trying to watch TV at once, it works very well for a lot less money, about $100 a month less.

<scratches head> Looking at what we watch, for us to drop TV service and start streaming.... the subscription prices total up to just about what we pay for TV. And I have a great ISP, and that's a win there. @LMichaels also makes a GREAT point about data usage.

As far as everything on-demand.... we've started to watch stuff, TV series in particular, go off & do other things, and come back to find out that it's no longer available. If I'm running my own DVR, it's still there. One other thing..... I have mine set up so I can watch remotely (yes, that's really hard on data caps,) I've set my laptop up at work during an early Sunday morning maintenance period so a couple of us could watch Formula 1 live.

If it works for you, Lynn, great, go & run with it.

If you're tired of Comcasts crap, as I was tired of Cox Communications , who acted like they were the only game in town , then the way to strike back is to stream.

Cox raised my rates every year, claiming some ridiculous thing about their costs increasing. It was an automatic 5 to 10 % annual increase. I started streaming and they've not raised my internet rate in four years. And I think 5G has also put the fear in them.

T-Mobile is offering 5G home service but as long as Cox doesn't raise their rates, I'm staying put. The cost savings are not great enough to be an early adapter of 5G.

Cable is losing subscribers in droves. I doubt it will be around much longer.

I've got Comcast/Xfinity for internet only, I pay a bit more for unlimited data and all of our TV is streaming (YouTube TV for Live, plus Netflix, Disney+, etc.). Where we are now (just moved to a new house last June) we're supposed to be able to get AT&T fiber, but other than pricing (the same as Xfinity) I haven't looked into it too much yet. I have found Xfinity customer service to actually be pretty good, in person. Unlike when I call for something (I can think of only one time when a call to customer service/support went well), if I go into the local office, they are knowledgeable, helpful, efficient, and have consistently helped me keep my bill reasonable (YMMV).

I normally prefer to do things online as much as possible, as opposed to dealing with customer service/support folks for most things. But for Xfinity, I go into the local office.

There's a lot about streaming that I don't like. Things like it takes forever to change the channel. It also takes a long time to find what I want to watch. There's a lot of navigation involved.

But the big change is how I watch TV. When I first cut the cable, I subscribed to the " live " streamers, like Sling and Hulu Live, trying to replace what I had on cable, ya know, hundreds of channel choices and having channels that I might want to watch every once in a while. And its now evolved into not needing that big live cable package. 95% of that stuff I never watched anyway. I currently don't sub to a " live " streaming service.

The big money that cable / satellite charges is primarily for sports and cable news. If ya don't need either of those, streaming can be dirt cheap. That's where the money is at. I never watched cable news and football is my only sports interest. And I get most of my football OTA.

The ESPN bundle may've been one of the biggest ripoffs ever. ESPN was forcing these cable companies to carry all of their channels and jacking up the price for the entire bundle. And the cable companies were putting it in their packages and making non-sports fan pay the high fee. There's a day of reckoning coming for ESPN.

I have been streaming for years I have ATT Fiber in ATL I have the gig service and pay $50 per month which includes unlimited data and now HBO Max. I have 2 apple tv's which one was no charge when ATT had a decent streaming package they gave me one in a promo which they don't have anymore my daughter has a firestick.

The problem with these streaming packages is you do have to make choices on what channels are important to you. I am a big football guy I had Hulu and they were missing the NFL network which in December one weekend I think those playoff games are only available on that network. My wifes thing is the Hallmark Channels which is not on Hulu but they are on Fubo which also has the NFL network and now has ESPN which they did not have till fairly recently. They do not have the Time Warner channels which we don't care about so it becomes pick your poison.

Fubo is the same price as Hulu now $65 bucks when I first started streaming many of these packages were 35-45 but those days are over.

I get some of you who don't have any choices my sister has a home in Cape Cod its Comcast or nothing here in the Metro we have ATT and Comcast. I have unlimited data which I need since my Ecobee Therms, obviously streaming and our iphones run off the internet when at home and we have 3 laptops so I don't want to worry about caps.

Sling TV Lost 100,000 Subscribers in Q1 2021, Dish Down 230,000 Video Customers

Article attributes Sling TV losses to $5 price increase. I don't think its just me that only subcribes to live streaming service during football season. I cut Hulu Live in January.

Again, sports and cable news drive live TV , whether its streaming , cable, or satellite. That's also where the advertising money is at. They provide revenue from both ads and subs.

Two things about this ....... evidently growth in live streaming services is slowing. This is the first time I've seen a loss of subscribers by any of the live providers.

And it makes me wonder how far away we are from live services using contracts, like cable and satellite, to keep people from jumping around.

It’s a miserable ring of thievery! I get tired of 200 channels with not one blasted thing I really want to watch. That is not any of the broadcasters problem, it’s customers wanting to watch the drivel that is “reality TV”. I’m trying to sort out what I will do, it’s $200 for phone, cable and internet “service” and there is an old Will Rogers story about “service” and it has to do with breeding animals. You know what I’m talking about.
