Beer.

Sorry guys, having a tontine toast to my old man. He's in the hospice care center on his last. Not expecting him to be on "this side" much longer. Maybe a couple days on the outside. But he's comfortable, cared for and being seen to by lots of family on a daily basis. At 98+ I guess it's about as "easy" a sendoff as one could hope for. So, grabbing a little Abelour Speyside Single Malt

@LMichaels, I've never had the fortune to meet him, but I have met you. I will absolutely hoist one for him tonight, possibly a Balvenie 21yo Portwood.

Wow that sounds like a nice one. I may just hoist one more tonight before I toss a ribeye on the Ninja. Maybe the Balvene this time.
It hurts to see him in this shape, but it's also good knowing he's being well cared for in his end hours.
Thank you!

No kidding. I think that it's more important that we meet our end of days in the manner that we choose. When we make that [informed] choice, our wishes have to be honored in my opinion. Lingering on in a hospital bed was one of Dad's greatest fears, and that absolutely affected his healthcare choices during his last couple of years.

I'll get off my soapbox.

Wow, I'd be in on that
We don't get it out often. My g/f lost an aunt this past week, it just seemed like the right time.

FWIW, when we found it some 25 years ago, we could get it for $50-80 a fifth. Binny's has it listed for $300 now. Needless to say, it lives in the back of the bar, hiding away where most people don't see, right next to the Herradura Seleccion Suprema tequila.

That is a rather nicely framed picture. :)

I cannot wrap my head around that!
That's not the only bottle in the bar with that kind of a price tag. Life is too short to drink bad booze. Or eat bad barbecue. Ain't that why we're all here?

The price on single malt Scotches has skyrocketed, bourbon is doing the same thing now. What used to be really good and affordable spirits are going through the roof. Tequila, maybe to a lesser extent. Irish? Still some good stuff available. Don't count out whiskeys of Japanese origin either, and I'm hearing that India is now turning out some good stuff. Canada? Oh, heck yes.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Breezy, sunny, quiet Sunday afternoon. Watching Brokenwood Mysteries on the DVR and a cold beer.

One of my favorite seasonal releases. It's surprisingly balanced and only gets better with age...
