Simply amazing day here yesterday, prolly about 70 degrees

Scored some White Oak firewood for free :)

Still a little wet, the guy said it had been cut about six months. I did get it to burn, but had to split and re-split again, to get it to burn

Decided to do a boid on my new (36 y/o kettle) It was a successful cook, tasted great but wasn't pretty. Had a hard time controlling the temp. The kettle has the old style vents on the bottom, it's pretty tough to get even heat. Prolly have to do a one sided indirect, center indirect is difficult

The beautiful calm day and the smoke from the kettle made for some nice pics of my mancave :)

Hope everyone else had a nice weekend, looking forward to a 3 day work week!

If I was grilling a bird in the gazebo this morning it would be shivering in the snow and wind. So can I fly out and use yours?

Sure, come on over! I have to admit I pretty much hate everything about kalifornia except for one thing; the weather. The weather is so good, I can overlook everything else bad about kalifornia. Let me tell you (after the recent elections) there's plenty to hate about kalifornia, so the weather really has to work hard, to fix so much wrong

Got the beer, on my way over ChuckO! Nice hang-out.
Bet that chook weren't too shabby either.

That's why Barb and I left California 13 years ago. Love the weather here in the high country of Arizona, but not as nice as Cali. We do get a little snow but it doesn't stay for more then a day or so.
Have to say our politics here in AZ are the laughing stock of America, but not as expensive to the residents as Cali at least. When we go back to see the kids and grandkids after two days I'm ready to head for home. Just to nutso for me anymore.

Good looking bird, Chuck. Really like your cave and your yard is lovely. If we continue to get the rain, you'll have water in your pond next to the cave too!

All of it looks great. Not sure I would ever leave that gazebo, unless ya know, another one with a hot tub was strategically placed next to it.

Yes sir, no women allowed in the man cave, however women are more than welcome in the hot tub. The more the merrier :)

Chuck - that is some great looking bird dude! The picture of smoke pouring out of the top of your gazebo is beautiful.

Regards,

John

That big chunk of wood was to cook a pizza in the WSM. I made the mistake of making the pizza before I had the fire going and I couldn't get the pizza off the tray to the pizza stone. I ended up sticking the pizza tray in the WSM, taking out the stone once the WSM got hot (600+ degrees) The pizza actually came out good, but I got so busy trying to get the WSM fired up, I didn't get any pictures. Afterwards, I rubbed up the bird, for cooking on the 1978 kettle. It's going to take some cooks to get used to that kettle, the vents are not as easy to dial in as the vent is on the newer kettles

I'm going to split down the Oak to smaller pieces, because my plan for it is to fire roast food in the WSM (Pizzas, Wings, hung steaks, ect)

I think photo 6 and photo 8 are identical, butt no big deal :p

no mention of the finished bird.... no photos, no talk how good it was...

feel cheated here, dude. what gives??

side note: I actually believe it is EASIER to control temps using the old Weber three vent "daisy wheel" kettles.

I get a little carried away with the photos, LOL. We don't have "dead calm" days too often, so I'm easily impressed with the smoke going out the top.

Maybe I should rename the mancave to "Pig-Vilion West." :) (someday maybe when I become a Jedi)

Chicken was beautiful going in, but not so beautiful coming out (hence the lack of photo) One side it was really dark, one side wasn't. It tasted dang good, just wasn't picture worthy... I think it's because I'm not too good with the daisy wheels. I hope to step it up. One of the wheels is loose, spins freely until it hits the end. Need to search and see if there's a way to fix that. I like it, it's the year I graduated high skool

no jedi around these parts... ****, don't even know what a jedi is
Need to search and see if there's a way to fix that
need four hands to do this, and some times it works, sometimes it don't.
find a LARGE socket... fit that centered over the rivet of the loose wheel and HOLD TIGHT!
inside the kettle, find the center of the rivet with a center punch.
PUNCH HARD! while HOLDING TIGHT on the large socket.
this may or may not work.
It did for me five out of six times.

the 6th one, I drilled out the rivet, reshaped the daisy wheel and bolted in place using stainless hardware.

I may register the name Pigvilion to keep it clean, no offense.
