I started assembling the grill even though I need to repaint the end caps of the lid just to make sure everything works. i ordered these Hongso flavorizer bars and burnertube together for about $50.00. Definitely going to get returned. The angle of the bars were too acute so that the top layer did not rest properly in the cook box. The top part of the lower layer was above the ledge that the top layer rest on so that they sit directly on top of the lower bars. I also got the short cross tube for the burning tubes. If I didn’t buy the two things as a set I ould keep the tubes and just use the correct cross tube that I already bought from grillparts.com.

this was the Amazon page for these items.

What is really bad is that dozens of people have bought them and are using them that way. They just don't know any better. I bet they are not 16 gauge either. I think a couple years back I bought those same flavo bars and returned them as well.

Ugh, what a pain in the ***! Thanks for the warning on that set. I bought a combo set last year, I forget what brand it was now, flavorizer bars were fine but I also got a short crossover tube. Luckily I had an extra one that I just had to modify the bracket on it to make it fit. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth the hassle on some of this aftermarket stuff.

When the Weber parts are 2-3 times the price of aftermarket, it is tough for it not to be worth a little hassle.

I guess it’s safe to say all the Chinese flavorizer bars on Amazon will be the same? Those Hongso were very thin, I think 20 gauge. I will probably spend a little more for these. Anybody familiar?

I have never bought a set of those, but they are probably about as good as you will find. You might want to check out RCPlanebuyer. He makes the best and I think that even with the current supply issues, he is still able to make flavorizer bars. They will probably cost more than the Rivers Edge set, but they are "THE BEST".
He sells on Ebay, but if you contact him through his craigslist add, he won't have to pay ebay fees and can give you a better deal.
Click on any of his CL adds and just contact him and let him know what you are looking for and he will tell you what he can do.

Can’t beat Dave Santana/RCPlanebuyer, especially for the 13-bar sets. Qlimetal makes excellent 5-bar flavorizer bars, but not the 13-bar set.

Those have almost all good ratings and are still cheaper than oem. You can look on ebay too, they have quite a bit to choose from also.

Well after all that work I can’t get the grill to work. The burners won’t stay lit. I checked every where for leaks. Tried two sets of burners. The front burner will light but it is weak and will go out. I tried opening the valves as per the valve cleaning video posted in the repairs thread, but most of those tiny screws are stripped.

I thought I had read that the manifold rarely has problems. I don’t see where else the problem would be though.

edit: the only other thing I could think of is the that the regulator on the hose is bad. I never replace the hose, I just put on an adaptor to fit onto the propane tank

It's probably the regulator because you decided not to replace it, that's how it works lol. Before you get a new one, unscrew the old one and tap on the back of the regulator with the handle of a screwdriver. Sometimes that unsticks the diaphragm inside of it.

I agree with the regulator being a likely cause. But, you might have simply tripped the safety mechanism in the LP tank. Try closing all burners, then close the tank, then unscrew the hose from the tank. Let it sit about a minute. Then hook the tank back up. Then SSSLLLOOOWWWLLLYY open the tank for one full turn and then open it all the rest of the way normally. Then open the front burner valve to HI. THen light it. It should come up to full flame. Then light the second and third burners and they should light and run normally. If not, go to the regulator next.

Have you cleaned your burners. It could be that insects have gotten in a created webs/nests that are preventing proper fuel flow. Or the burner holes are just mostly clogged up.

Thanks, I will follow these instructions, if it doesn’t work I found a hose/regulator replacement for $16 on Amazon

Tried this, I got a flash of blue by the igniter box from the first few holes and then nothing. with a match I got each hole on the first burner to light briefly. The second and back burners I was able to light with a match before quickly going out. i have been testing with brand new burners. Hopefully this still sounds like a regulator problem. I will order an aftermarket hose/reg tonight

Do you have another working grill to temporarily swap hoses and regulators?
