HiUPDATE:
I picked up my order of stainless shields for my 1st generation Summit today. I had enough made to do several grills, and the shop saved the file so they can make even more.

These are very nice and certainly thick and heavy enough stainless. They are thick enough gauge that I am rethinking and May just go with inside pieces only.

The shop did a great job of making them match up with the actual front piece:

Our own Moderator, Chris, who also owns a 4-burner 1st generation Summit is in for this order. If others are interested at $25 for the front piece and $10 for the back piece, plus actual shipping, please PM me.
If you own a 2nd or 3rd generation Summit and would like to pursue this for your grills, let me know. The shop technician said that it was much better that I lent him the original front rather than relying on a cardboard cutout. That could make things interesting. Still, shields like this could give a whole new life to a Summit Platinum which has so much going for it other than this porcelain plated firebox front.
That would be an early third generation Summit.Hi
I have a summit s-470 2008 what generation is this grill.
ThanksThat would be an early third generation Summit.
Great news!UPDATE:
After selling out all of my original run of 1st generation Summit stainless reinforcement plates, I was fortunate to be able to get the shop that made them a couple years ago make me a new run. So, they are available again. Slightly higher price:
Piece with cut-out holes for burners and igniter (front). Each piece covers two burners, so you need two for a 4-burner and three for a 6-burner model. $28.00
"Plain" piece for the back. These are the same size, so you need the same number as above, depending on your model. While this may not seem as important, when I looked close at my Summit, I found the beginnings of rust/burn-through on the back panel, just not as far along as on the front. $12.00

NOTE: I have been using these on my "daily driver" Summit for over two years, and applied with food grade red RTV, I have had no issues so far. It's great to keep this very cool Weber - maybe the best Weber ever put their name on - still cooking over 25 years after it was made!

Summit Platinum parts are certainly worth something. For sure the knobs, trays... Is this one NG or Propane? If it is propane, I would love to get the manifold from it to do a conversion on a NG one. There isn't much that I think would carryback to a 1st generation Summit. You might be able to use some of the stainless cabinet parts on a Genesis, but I think you are looking at significant fabrication work to do that. I think the tray tables will work on Genesis Silver/Gold grills.Found this Summit Platinum in the trade in heap at the local Ace…
Any parts that could be useful for our OG Summits? Knobs?
Or can frame be repurposed to save Genesis 2000?
I'm considering some refurbishment of my Summit 450 later this year. I will be going back and reviewing the details of Jon's restoration and getting inspiration and direction from it.I will be happy to do my best. Having an assembled one (which did take some effort and referencing the similar one owned by @Chris Allingham) will make that easier!
Chris, buy yourself a new Summit. I'm sure you deserve it after all these years. One of the big reasons why I don't buy a new Weber is because I don't want to get used to cooking on the north/south burner configuration. In your case that's not a problem and with the aluminum cook box along with how well you take care of your grill it should last a long time.I'm considering some refurbishment of my Summit 450 later this year. I’ll swing by tomorrow and take a look - I think the thermometer and bezel might work for my VieluxeSummit Platinum parts are certainly worth something. For sure the knobs, trays... I am sorry; I meant the tray tables. I think the thermometer and bezel might work. If not, they are still worth salvaging for something else. Tables and knobs as well!I’ll swing by tomorrow and take a look - I think the thermometer and bezel might work for my Vieluxe
What do you mean by Trays? Grease tray?
You want manifold if LP?
