I live in Springfield, Oregon where one of the factories is. On Memorial weekend they are usually on sale at Lowes.

    Fire went out/ help

My comment is way too late, but you could have finished it off in the oven. The smoke flavor would have been there.

The 1950s Barbecue Compendium - A Sauce Recipe Archive

Thanks Jamie. I just got on here to see if there was a recipe for a vintage chicken basting sauce. Now I can pick and choose. Loren

    Old-style KFC BBQ chicken sauce?

Grant, Since you are in Oregon I have a KFC observation, maybe you've seen it. In Tillamook, just as you are leaving towndown to head north on hwy 101 there used to be the very large bucket of chicken sign. The sign has been taken down now, but it lasted way longer than the building. I...

    Like to do jigsaw puzzles?

I have a puzzle table dedicated to jigsaws. Right now I'm working on a Vincent Van Gogh "Stary Nights" 1500 piece. Generally, I like older ones from the 50s, 60s and 70s. 1000 pieces and up. I do like the Gig big eyed Kitty and Puppy puzzles though.

A different way to do Chicken.

OK, I'll be the skeptical one: Beer can chicken without the beer? Forget about it. Having to handle all those rocks and shovel gravel for a cook? Forget about it. How many truckloads of hay did it take to do that cook for five or more hours? Forget about it. I did love the scenery and the...

    Smoked bologna sandwich

Wondering how much smoke it took in? Would it have dried out if it was sliced, then smoked?

    No rub?

Thanks for all your responses. Next time I'll go with a little salt and have the rub to sprinkle on at the table. Thanks also for the sweet sauce recipes. I was thinking this might get a more distinct heat and sweet.

    No rub?

I'm wondering if anybody here smokes pork ribs with no rub or maybe adding some late in the smoke. Just wondered if simpler might be OK. I'll probably try it just for the learning experience but wondered what others thought. I've been cooking on my bullet for 13 years, but never considered...

    Pork butt at Costco

I bought and smoked a two pack from Costco on Saturday last week. It seemed like one gigantic shoulder cut in half. Is that normal? I tied them up good with kitchen string and it worked out fine.

Plum wood? Anyone have experience to share?

Yes. I have three big fruited plum trees and a bough broke off a year ago. Use it the same as cherry or apple.

Is it at all common to inject with bacon drippings? Loren

Thermapen ONE 20% off + Free Temp Magnet

Bought one. The checkout process is smooth. Sometimes a slow thermometer is OK if you want to bump up the grate temp. but this will be nice. Thanks for posting this and your quick replies. Loren

Thermapen ONE 20% off + Free Temp Magnet

Does it come with a padded hard case to store it in? I'm being serious here; would want it protected. OK I just realized I could use a hard spectacle case which protects eyeglasses.

    Where's the beef?!?!? (It's here)

The only problem I see is that those meat slices are supposed to completely circle the beans. LOL Eight hours would be worth it for those. Loren

    Hanging Tomahawk Ribeye

I would have bent that hook a whole lot more. Every sphincter muscle in my body tightened watching that hook.

    new WSM grates - question

Back in the day (and even still today) ballplayers would rub down a new baseball bat with a hambone to harden it. That's how I got my name. You could try that but it would just be for good luck with a grill.

Keeping pulled pork warm for a birthday party

I would say pull it all and keep it warm in one of those big electric roasters.
