Condensation build up in the 22" WSM

Yes, you can be almost assured that the water is seeping in through the not so waterproof cover and running inside. I'd flip the middle or use a plastic bag before drilling a hole. Fix the problem at the source instead of trying to mitigate it.

    Interesting water retention issue

If you store your WSM with the middle section flipped you will never have a water problem. Even if you leave it uncovered in the open.

    Oiling Vents

Just a little Conceptual Continuity. :D

    Oiling Vents

The lid is on the inside so that during use any condensation and whatever will run down the inside and stay inside. The mid section on the base is the same. The absurdly easy solution to the rain problem is to store your smoker with the mid section inverted.

    TVWBB Banner Available

I have a TVWBB Member Banner that is still in its tube (postmarked 7/5/2011). I got it more so to support the site than display it hence the reason for it still being in the tube. It has been opened to look at but it has never been hung up or been out in the weather. I'd like to pass it on...

    Rotisserie for genesis

If its an EZ Que basket style (9891), the dimensions are all wrong for the current Genesis grills. The box on a Genesis C is 24" wide, on a new 3xx it is 27 inches wide. The old spit still fits and spins in the new box but it comes up about 2 inches short of engaging the drive motor with the...

    Silver Maple as smoke wood?

You'll probably find that it burns up pretty quick with a clean smoke. Nothing harsh. It will be a lot less than with equivalent sizes of Oak, Hickory, Apple or Cherry. The terms 'Soft and Hard Maple" are logging/mill names to describe Red and Silver Maple vs. Sugar Maple. Red and Silver are...

    new dampener vents???

Call Weber. They will set you up with new ones. I replaced mine after they got snagged and bent one to many times.

    Sludge in the charcoal bowl??

Is it possible that you spilled some water from the pan and didn't realize it at the time?

Water Getting in the Bottom Bowl of Weber 18" SMC - Where Does it Come From?

With your WSM set up with the midsection in the normal cooking position rain water runs in because the top sits to the inside of the lip of the midsection. When you flip the midsection the top will sit to the outside, thus water runs over it and down the outside instead of running directly...

Is a BBQ cover worth using

All that you need to do is to invert the middle section of your WSM when you are not using it. No rain water will get inside, it will run right off. No cover needed at all.

A Friend of a Friend..... Is Cutting Down a Cherry Tree

For smoke wood purposes I think it is much easier to cut the log into 1.5" cookies, then bust the cookies up as you need them. They are very easy to split that way.

    Buttless in NJ

Should have tried asking him for some country style ribs that were not sawed up yet. As suggested, ShopRite has been a source for me. My regular place for butt is Costco in Nanuet NY, which might be a bit far for you. Corrados might do you good also.

Running a remote thermometer into WSM

Put the door on upside down and run the wire through what is now the upper corner. There is a little gap that the wire can easily fit through.

Guys who heat with wood, do you ever feel 'wrong' burning good smoke wood?

You guys that heat your house with wood, have you ever felt 'wrong' burning up good smoke wood? For some reason I find it hard to send cherry up my stove flue. I just can't bring myself to do it. Anybody else ever feel like they shouldn't be burning up a perfectly good piece of smoke wood...

    Crimson King Maple ??

It is not one of the more desireable smokewoods, but by no means is is undesireable. There is no reason for you not to try it. I have never used it but I believe that it is similar to red maple, in that it will be prone to burning up fast as it is not very dense. It is closely related to...

    How long for smoked salmon?

Not very long for the actual smoking part. Depending on the thickness you are looking at a little over an hour. I cook salmon to about 140.

    Maple wood?

Some of the ways to tell the maples apart without cutting into them are: By the seeds. Sugar maples seed (we called them helicopters) in the late summer or early fall. Red and silver maple seed in the spring. By the leaves. Red and silver maple leaves are much more deeply cut than red or...

    Another smoke wood question

Ornamental varieties of a given species are fine. Maple might not be the most revered smokewood but it will work. One caveat being that we are using the common names for trees here. Common names tend to be regionalized. It is quite possible that people in North America and people in South...
